Beach Fishing With Paul Sperco Palm Beach/Martin County Area
I made a quick trip to Stuart beach this morning with the hope that the slow fishing from the last few days had picked up. The pattern on the pompano front has been catch a few and then leave the beach after the sharks take over . This held true again today. I managed to put some keepers in the cooler right away but it seems after 45 minutes or so the sharks catch on and you cannot get a fish landed. As Capt Mike Conner stated in a previous post, its not fair to sacrifice these pompano to shark after shark. Right now we have some big numbers of these toothy critters spread up and down all of our local beaches . On a better note those of you who like to target the bluefish can certainly bend a rod as I caught some today on EZ Flea Fishbites along with some blue runners. Once the numbers of shark start to decrease our pompano catch rate will definitely jump up .
Scouting Around Palm Beach And Martin County
Inshore Fishing:
Off of the Jensen and Roosevelt causeways there is still excellent action for black drum. Shrimp on a jighead is the way to go.
Up by the St. Lucie Power Plant the sea trout bite is also still holding and there are also some redfish being caught in the area.
In the Indian and St. Lucie Rivers, there has been some good snook action. The key is finding the mullet schools and using top-water lures.
Along the beaches in Jupiter they have been catching a little bit of everything including bluefish, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, a few pompano and a few redfish. Spoons and lures that resemble shad are working well. Like many things, timing is the key. That first hour after sunrise is when the fish are biting. One shop owner, who caught 13 fish in that golden hour two weeks ago, had five in under an hour on Tuesday. He had three jack crevalle and two bluefish using an Acme Kastmaster spoon.
In the Loxahatchee River, there has been a good bite on jack crevalle, a few bluefish and snook. Working the docks and seawalls using D.O.A. Shrimp lures or live shrimp has been producing good results. 
Anglers at the Boynton Inlet have been catching sheepshead up to six pounds, small mangrove snapper and sand perch along the seawalls and pilings on the north jetty. The sheepshead are hitting small crabs and the snapper and sand perch are being caught on shrimp.
There have been large schools of sardines and mullet holding in the Intracoastal Waterway right at the mouth of the Boynton Inlet and along the south seawall and adjoining flats.
At the Lantana Bridge, sheepshead, jack crevalle, ladyfish, black drum, small mangrove snapper and sand perch are being caught on various jigs, lures, live shrimp, small crabs and cut mullet.
Lake Okeechobee:
The bass bite has been excellent the past week in the early mornings working the outside grass lines. Best bets are moving baits including Skinny Dippers, Speed Worms and swim jigs.
After the morning bite starts to back off switching to flippin’ and using beaver-style baits or switching to live shiners will keep the action going. The speck bite is starting to pick up some. Jigging around Little Grassy and King’s Bar has been productive. There have also been some taken by anglers using minnows in the deeper areas of the Kissimmee River. There has been good action for bluegill and Mayan cichlids in the Indian Prairie and rim canals. Worms and crickets are the go-to baits.

WEATHER IS GREAT AND THE FISH ARE BITING!
We hear that fishing has been GOOD off both jetties and throughout the inlet. There’s a mix of Snook, Reds, Black Drum, Spanish Mackerel and Pompano to be had. Finger mullet are still around and making good bait fish, and shrimp are a good option too. Today, our featured angler of the week is Ryan Widman – thanks for sending in your pics! Fishing the North Jetty, he caught 3 slot Snook and released two per the FWC set bag limit. Ryan caught them on mullet on a fish finder rig off the North Jetty in the surf. “Both were nice days with a few big pods of the last mullet run..”
From Whites Tackle - Ft Pierce / Stuart
The Pompano fishing along the beaches is slowly improving, and a little cooler weather should kick it into high gear. Clams and sand fleas have been the best bet. Snook continue to be caught on the beaches, with a few larger specimens caught on live bait from Riomar to north of Ft. Pierce Inlet, and Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish have also been fairly consistent. The inlets are still producing Snook, but live bait is still key, and Sebastian is still producing a few Redfish as well. Inside, Snook are still active, particularly during early morning hours, with live bait, soft plastics, and even topwater plugs doing damage. Redfish are becoming more prevalent, particularly in the Round Island area, and soft plastics are producing the best.

INSHORE- Lots of mullet around over the past week....mullet run isn't over just yet! Snook remain the main species around inshore, but a few more jacks (Including some big ones) are pushing in as well. Look for the mullet to move around the most during lowlight periods of the day and at night. Fishing will obviously be best in the same kind of time frame. If your into throwing lures go with hardbaits (Yo-Zuri Pencil and Darter, SP Minnow, X-Rap) over soft plastics as just enough bluefish are mixed in to make throwing soft plastics very annoying. Other inshore action is beginning to pick up as well. Our wintertime drum and sheepshead are starting to filter in. Not in huge numbers just yet, but they are coming back in. A live shrimp on a jighead is a great lure choice for them.
SURF/PIER- Bluefish are beginning to show up in fair numbers. Best action on them remains north of Jupiter Inlet, with a few making it down to the south as well. Noisy topwater lures are a great choice during lowlight periods of the day, while spoons an cutbait work well when the sun is up a bit. INSHORE FISHING:
In the Indian and St. Lucie Rivers, along the seawalls and at the docks and bridges, there are good numbers of snook, tarpon and jack crevalle.
For snook use live mullet or a Spooltek Mullet lure.
There are still black drum being caught on the bridges as well and that bite should get better once the cool fronts start pushing through. Use live or dead shrimp for bait.
Up by the St. Lucie Power Plant the sea trout bite has been excellent. No gators, but plenty of schoolie size fish are being taken on D.O.A. Shrimp and D.O.A. C.A.L. lures.
Along the beaches in Jensen, they are still catching pompano, bluefish and whiting using Fishbites and clam strips. Get them in quick though as there are sharks around.
Surf anglers working the beaches around Boynton are catching bluefish, jack crevalle, croaker and a few barracuda throwing two- to three-ounce Gator Spoons and using cut mullet or live shrimp.
The Boynton Inlet has been relatively quiet with mostly small mangrove snapper or spots hitting shrimp.
Anglers fishing the Intracoastal Waterway have reported catches of pompano and bluefish while working the channel edges from the Palm Beach Yacht Center south to Ocean Ridge. Use white pompano jigs tipped with shrimp and cut mullet on bluefish rigs.
At the Lantana Bridge anglers have been catching a few flounder on live shrimp and some nice black drum and sheepshead using either oysters or small crabs.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE:
With the water cooling down a little bit the fishing has also backed off some. Best bets have been swim jigs in the early mornings and then switching over to flippin’. The hot spots have been the Kings Bar area along with Buckhead Ridge down to the Indian Prairie Canal. The lake level is getting lower so boaters and anglers need to be careful and know what they’re doing.

Inshore the mullet are around good with some nice trout and reds in the bait schools to the north with some small snook live bait and top water produced the best. The jetty fishing has been a little slow but the front coming down mid week.

Today, our featured angler of the week is Tristan Whitehouse, visiting Sebastian Inlet all the way from New York. He brought this massive Redfish over the rails of the North Jetty on live mullet. Nice catch, Tristan, and we hope you had a great visit to the inlet and our area!
We talked to Sarah this morning for the latest and anglers have been picking up Black Drum, Pompano, Reds, Snook and Spanish Mackerel. Finger mullet are everywhere and the shrimp are working too. We hear they are looking better and getting bigger as we head into winter. Beach Fishing With Paul Sperco Palm Beach/Martin County Area
Heres a late surf report from today. There was a great pompano bite today, up and down Hutchinson Island. I worked this morning but my phone was blowing up with reports of pompano being caught from Santa Lucea to Blue Heron. I made a late run to Middle Cove and had a great late afternoon bite. I caught over 30 pompano with 11 of them being keeper size . The life on the beach was fantastic as my catch list included lots of ladyfish, big blue runners, jacks, and even a bonefish. I know it sounds like a broken record but EZ Flea Fishbites was the top producing bait followed by the Chartreuse Crab bait. Live sandfleas were plentiful also. Saturday looks like the only day out of the next few when the weather may be an issue so get your gear ready and go bend a rod.

SURF/PIER- Pompano fishing remains very good along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier. Sandfleas, clams, and FishBites are the bait of choice, while Doc's Goofy Jigs are the lure of choice. The jig bite at the pier is as good as it has been for years. No hot colors on the jigs, so keep a few different colors on hand. The kingfish have also been biting at the Pier over the past few days. Early morning and later afternoon is the ticket to get those king bites. A sardine on a trolley rig or casting a Rapala X-Rap is the way to go. Scattering of Spanish Mackerel around, but not in huge numbers. Been some bluefish around as well. A loud noisy topwater or silver spoon has been working well on the blues. Sharks are staring to show in some pretty good numbers as well.

Scouting Around Palm Beach And Martin County
INSHORE FISHING
Along the beaches in the Jensen area, the pompano bite has been a bit hit or miss.
The key has been finding the beaches with clear water with a nice green tint. Sandflea Fishbites, sandfleas and clam strips are working best. Around Bathtub Beach there have been snook and tarpon chasing the schools of mullet. Use live mullet for both.
Up around the power plant there is still a good bite on redfish. Fish live pinfish or mullet on the bottom. drum around the Roosevelt Bridge while the Jensen Causeway has been mostly a snook affair.
The beaches in Jupiter have been fantastic the past few days.
Anglers fishing that hour just as the sun is coming up have been catching jack crevalle, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish and pompano.
One Wednesday, one angler caught 13 jack crevalle and two bluefish from 7 to 8 a.m. He was using a Berkley PowerBait Power Minnow, throwing just past the break and working the inside trough.
From Gulfstream Park to Phipps Ocean Park there has been a nice pompano bite in the surf. Live sandfleas, blanched sandfleas, fresh cut live shrimp and goofy jigs have been producing fish up to four pounds.
Boynton Inlet has been rather quiet this past week. Blue runners, spots, small mangrove snapper and ladyfish have been hitting cut mullet and live shrimp.
Anglers working the Intracoastal Waterway around the Boynton spillway, the flats and the docks from Ocean Ridge up to Lake Worth are catching a mixed bag including snook, redfish, flounder, jack crevalle, ladyfish, small grouper and various snapper. They are using live mullet and live shrimp on one-eighth to half-ounce jig heads.
At the Lantana Bridge anglers using both live and cut mullet, crabs and live shrimp have caught a few pompano, sheepshead, small redfish, croaker and sand perch.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE
Though the action has been excellent, the bigger bass have been a bit hard to come by the past week.
On the west side of the lake, from Buckhead Ridge to Indian Prairie the early morning bite is good. Using white swim jigs and spinner baits and working the outside grasslines has been the key. When that slows down, try switching over to a black and blue Senko and start working the buggy whip reeds.
There has also been a good bass bite along the shell bars at the mouth of the Kissimmee River. Use a Carolina Rig.
The crappie bite has been good as well. Anglers using yellow and white and some pink and white jigs are having a blast working the Little Grassy and King’s Bar area in the round reeds.
Sebastian Inlet Report
GO DROP A LINE-SNOOK, REDS, BLACK DRUM, SPANISH MACKEREL AND JACKS AT THE INLET
Our friend Tommy at Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle tells us the fishing has been pretty good. Winds and seas have calmed down a bit since last week so anglers are finding it easier to fish from the jetties. The finger mullet have been running so there’s ample bait and the shrimp look good too. Anglers have been bringing in Snook, Reds, Spanish Mackerel, Jacks and some Black Drum off the North and South jetties. Pompano has started to show up too, and anglers have reported catching a few Flounder here and there. Tommy tells us the night fishing for Snook has been great all throughout the inlet, anglers targeting them with flare jigs and shallow diving plug.
Beach Fishing With Paul Sperco Palm Beach/Martin County Area
It is great to post a surf report and not have to talk about big waves and dirty water. I cancelled a "fun" trip today with Nick Zeidman, friend and co worker from The Snook Nook and Penn Fishing. Based on the conditions and reports from the past week I was not very optimistic about finding a beach where the water was nice and the pompano were chewing. I should have relied on my age old saying, "You don't know if you don't go". I started at Stuart Beach and ended at Blue Heron where the water color was not the best but with an incoming tide I was hoping it improved and it did. 16 pompano later, 10 undersized and released and 6 in the cooler , I was pleasantly surprised. The EZ FLEA Fishbites were on fire today and accounted for almost all of the bites. The pompano that I was able to keep were all nice big fish that needed no measurement. The nice sized pompano are starting to move into our area along with some big whiting so get your gear ready and hit the beach . The forecast into the weekend does not have a lot of wind but it does include some rain. I don't mind putting up with some showers along as there is no lightning. The key to catching the pompano today was being able to reach them. Penn is now making LongCast models in both the Spinfisher VI and Conflict series and if you are interested in putting some pompano in your cooler this season, these two models will put you in the game. All of the bites came from 70 to 90 yards from shore and anything closer did not produce a single strike. I am going to cover distance casting techniques at my Seminar on Oct 26 at Bass Pro Shops. Its nice being able to talk about catching some of our fall species and not lamenting about the weather. Hey Nick, we are going next week!!

SURF/PIER- Pompano reports remain very good along the beach and at the Juno Beach Fishing Pier. Sandfleas, clams, and FishBites will be the best bait choices, while Doc's Goofy Jig reigns supreme as far as lures go. No hot color yet to speak of on the jigs, so be sure to have a few different options to offer. Bluefish are starting to show up along the beach as well in decent numbers. Loud noisy topwaters (ask us for a custom "Pelican"), diamond jigs, and cut bait are all good choices for the bluefish. A few scattered Spanish Mackerel reports, but no big numbers yet to speak of. The spinner sharks are starting to show, and are already starting to show some interest in the topwater lures as well. The Pier may provide the most fishing chances this weekend, as the report currently has it looking a bit rough!

Another weekend and another blow out . This wind and waves just will not quit . 6 to 8 foot waves are forecast through Sunday and that will make conditions unfishable along our local beaches . Looking ahead to next week the forecast is for less wind and subsiding waves but when I see it I will believe it . On a better note I just received some Chartreuse colored Crab scented Fishbites in the mail and cannot wait to give them a shot. The color is bright and along with the chartreuse colored floats on my pompano rigs , this should produce some great pompano action. This bait is available on the Fishbites website along with the pompano rigs. I always like tipping the rods that I fish natural sandfleas with a piece of Fishbites and the combination of EZ Flea and now Chartreuse Crab is a combo that should be deadly. Maybe the weather prediction will be inaccurate for the next couple of days and we will get a small window to throw some lines out. Good luck this weekend and catch em up.

INSHORE FISHING:
Up by the St. Lucie Power Plant they are still catching good numbers of redfish and sea trout. For the redfish, pinfish and shrimp are working as are top-water plugs. For the sea trout, D.O.A. Jerk Shad lures have been very effective. They are still getting black drum off the bridges using live shrimp.
On the beaches in the Jensen area, the pompano bite has been excellent. Sand flea Fishbites are the key right now. There was a good pompano bite happening in the surf between Lantana Beach and the Lake Worth Pier on Sunday and Monday. Fishing sand fleas and shrimp tipped white pompano jigs during the first three hours of outgoing tide was key. Snook, mangrove snapper and jack crevalle have been hitting live mullet, live shrimp and cut sardines off the Boynton Inlet jetties. Redfish, croaker, black drum, snook and a few sea trout are being caught on live shrimp attached to a red or chartreuse quarter-ounce jig heads cast under or around the docks along the west side of the Intracoastal Waterway and the east side of Manalapan.
Lantana Bridge anglers have reported catches of small black drum, redfish, small sharks, jack crevalle, sheepshead and small mangrove snapper using live shrimp, cut mullet and small live crabs.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE:
There are good numbers of bass being caught. One captain reported catching 31 in a half day on Tuesday. Though live shiners are working best right now, there has been a decent artificial bite first thing in the morning. Anglers working the outside grass edge during the first 30 minutes of the day are getting some results using spinner baits and chatter baits. After that the best bet has been to get out the flippin stick. 
MORE FRESHWATER ACTION:
There has been some fun fishing for peacock bass along the Turnpike canals and 441. Fish up to six pounds were being caught on a five weight fly rod using orange/green streamers and large frog pattern poppers ripped across the surface.

Seminar Time Beach Fishing With Paul Sperco Palm Beach/Martin County Area

We transition into fall this month and the water will begin slowly cooling down for winter. It has been a warm year, so don’t expect a huge temperature difference. October provides great weather and hungry fish. Plan on enjoying this month. It’s a fantastic month to be fishing!
The fall mullet run will start winding down, but there will still be lots of hungry predators out there chasing them around the river and along the beaches. . Live finger mullet, croakers and pigfish will be the best live baits to use. DOA Terror Eyz and Bait Busters will be good artificial lures to use for snook. Try around the docks, jetties, turning basin and bridges docks around the river. Lighted docks are especially productive when fishing at night.
Redfish has continued to be a good bite for us again this year. Their population continues to grow and provide some awesome action for anglers around Fort Pierce. October will continue to be a productive month for those who seek redfish on the flats. The DOA 2 3/4“ shrimp or CAL grub tails are two of the best choices for redfish along with a variety of live and cut baits.
The trout bite will be good this month. Get out early with a top water lure for some exciting action on the river. Switch to a DOA shrimp or CAL jerk bait later in the mornings. Harbor Branch, Queen's Cove and Middle Cove are all great areas to fish for trout around the Treasure Coast. Look for some sheephead, black drum and snapper to be moving in around the bridges, docks and channel edges. The surf will be alive with jacks, snook, bluefish and other predators, which will all be chasing the bait schools along the beach.
Croakers and whiting will also be hanging along the beaches. It's another great month to fish along the Treasure Coast!

Mullet continue to move down the beaches, and there have been some Snook, Ladyfish, and Jack Crevalle around to take advantage, but few Tarpon. Best bets are DOA Bait Busters, Hogy Paddle Tails, and the new larger Yo-Zuri 3D Twitchbaits. In the Indian River, the higher water levels we’ve had is still making sight fishing a bit tough, but those willing to beat the bushes are being rewarded with Snook, baby Tarpon, and Seatrout. Docks are also productive, as are the relief canals. DOA CALs, Mirrodines, and smaller Yo-Zuri Twitchbaits are most productive, as well as flies such as the 3D Mullet and Polar Fibre Minnows. Offshore has been pretty slow, with a few Dolphin and Kingfish around, but little else. The inlets are still producing Snook, with Sebastian seemingly the better bet, and Redfish being caught there as well. Good luck out there!

Scouting Around Palm Beach And Martin County
INSHORE FISHING
There has been a good redfish bite up around the Middle Cove Beach area. Using pinfish for bait or top water plugs in the early morning has been producing good results.
In the same area they are also getting sea trout using D.O.A. Jerk Shads.
The fishing for black drum has been good the past week for anglers working the Jensen Causeway, the Roosevelt Bridge and the Ten Cent Bridge. They are mostly hitting shrimp on a jig head.
Pompano are being caught off the relief bridge by Stuart Causeway Park on goofy jigs.
Though with the strong east wind the surfcasting has been difficult, there are good numbers of pompano right now along the Jensen-area beaches.
At the Jupiter Inlet, anglers are catching good numbers of jack crevalle, some bluefish, redfish and snook. For the jacks, bluefish and redfish a spoon with a good wobble on 40-pound fluorocarbon has been producing good results. Work the spoon so the fish can see it through the churned up water.
Though the inlet has been good for snook, the area bridges have been better. Live mullet are best, but any lure resembling a mullet should get them biting. Lures with a good amount of white coloring are working best.
There are still good numbers of snook holding around the Boynton Inlet. Working from the surf Yo-zuri plugs have been effective.
Fishing from the inlet there is also good snook action with plenty of slot-size fish being caught using live croaker or mullet.
Also, the mangrove snapper bite has been good at the inlet using live shrimp or cut mullet.
Just inside the inlet, working the docks and flats has been producing a good pompano bite. They are being caught on white jigs tipped with shrimp.
North of the inlet, in the Intracoastal Waterway around Manalapan, they have been catching snook, ladyfish, bluefish and mangrove snapper. Live finger mullet, live shrimp, jigs with live shrimp and jigs with live mullet.
At the Lantana Bridge anglers are getting some small redfish on mullet chunks. They are also catching snook, ladyfish and some baby tarpon while working the shadow lines with live shrimp.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE
The bass fishing is still excellent in the early morning in the King’s Bar and Buckhead Ridge areas. Pitchin’ and flippin’ beaver-style baits and Senko worms has been working well. The bluegill bite is still good with the best action being found working the outside grassline around Henry Creek and the J&S Canal.
The spec bite has started to come up some. Anglers fishing deep in the Kissimmee River are having the best luck.

INSHORE: The mullet remain around in good numbers, and the snook and tarpon are taking full advantage of the plentiful food source. Look for the most action to go down early in the morning, late in the afternoon, and at night. The snook in particular are going to feed best at night. Look for the snook to be in ambush points waiting for the tide to move mullet to them. Bridge fenders, shadow lines, seawalls, etc that help line up the snook are great starting spots. Present the baits up current and let the them flow back naturally with the tide. In addition to the snook and tarpon; jacks, ladyfish, a few redfish, and others are mixed in the inshore action as well currently.
SURF/PIER: Fall surf fishing is slowly setting in along the beach. Bluefish, pompano, and sharks are all showing up in pretty good numbers. The pompano are being caught in good numbers on the Juno Beach Pier on Doc's Goofy Jigs. Along the beach sandfleas, clams, and Fishbites are the baits of choice for the pomps. Bluefish are biting topwater lures, silver spoons, diamond jigs, and cut bait. Spinner/Blacktip sharks are starting to show in good numbers as well. Still some schools of mullet coming down with tarpon in them. Should be a pretty good weekend along the beach, get after it!

The weekend is upon us and its been another week of big surf and hard east/northeast winds . Looking at the marine forecast for the next few days the wind is going to back off but it appears as if the swell is going to stay with us. Saturday looks like the surf is predicted to drop to 3 to 4 feet but then jump right back up to 4 to 6 on Sunday and 5 to 7 on Monday. I am keeping my fingers crossed that both days on the weekend will be fishable along our beaches because the water color from Jensen Beach to Fort Pierce Inlet looks pretty darn good. Break out some of your 4 and 5 ounce spider sinkers , grab your EZ Flea Fishbites, and bring a sandflea rake with you and give it a shot. Whiting, big jacks, mackerel, bluefish, and of course the number one quarry, the pompano should all make a showing as the calendar has turned the page to October. Big poppers and spoons will attract the big jacks, bluefish, and mackerel at first light . The nice pompano we caught last weekend were caught after the tide change on EZ Flea Fishbites and natural sandfleas. The key to catching them was being able to reach them at 75 to 100 yards from the surf line. 12 foot surf rods paired with 7500 Penn Spinfisher Longcast reels are the set ups I am using and this type of tackle will put you in the game .

Sebastian Inlet Report
A TON OF FISH AT THE INLET…!
The Indian River Lagoon is stacked with finger mullet which has brought in a variety of fish into the inlet. Anglers are reporting catches of some small Flounder and Mangrove Snapper have been biting on shrimp close to the catwalks. Sarah at Sebastian Inlet Bait & Tackle has been seeing some keeper Snook and Reds on the tide changes. Shrimp is the bait of choice there too. Folks are starting to pick up some Pompano on the North Jetty despite the surf being a little rough, and a fair number of Black Drum are there to be had, hitting on sand fleas, shrimp and clams. You’ll even find some Speckled Sea Trout in and out of the channel, in the backwaters, and on the southside of the inlet.
