11-02-16 WEDNESDAY: SNOOK, REDS, JACKS, FLOUNDER, BLUES, SPANISH MACKEREL, POMPANO, CATFISH AND LADYFISH
THE NORTH JETTY REMAINS CLOSED EAST OF THE GATE DUE TO HURRICANE MATTHEW. WE HOPE TO HAVE THE STRUCTUAL ENGINEERS IN TO INSPECT THE JETTY LATE THIS WEEK IF CONDITIONS ALLOW. CONDITIONS DO NOT PERMIT AN INSPECTION AT THIS TIME. ONCE THE JETTY PASSES INSPECTION, WE WILL BEGIN TO REPLACE THE GRATES THAT ARE ON SITE WHICH WILL ENABLE US TO OPEN MORE OF THE NORTH JETTY DURING THE DAY, THE NIGHT TIME CLOSURE WILL STILL BE IN EFFECT. THE STATE PARK IS OPEN 24 HOURS ON BOTH SIDES. TWO BOAT RAMPS ARE OPEN, THE MOST WESTERN RAMP REMAINS CLOSED.
We have dark clouds over the inlet this morning and a chance of isolated showers. Winds are blowing out of the Northeast at 12 mph, gusting to 19 and the water is choppy. Small craft should exercise caution today.
Fish are biting at the inlet. Reds, Snook, Flounder, Spanish Mackerel, Blues, Ladyfish, Jacks, a few Margate and Sheepshead are active. We're seeing a few Pompano on the flats as well.
Our angler of the day is David Stinson. David was traveling from West Palm Beach to Flagler when he stopped to fish the inlet on October 28th. Lots of Jacks and Catfish were being landed on finger mullet but David pulled in this big, 44" bull Red. David landed the C/R Red on the south side of the inlet using cut mullet. The Red was released unharmed right after the photo.
