Scouting Around Palm Beach/Martin County Area

    

            INSHORE

     Cubera snapper, jacks, pompano and sheepshead are all biting in the surf along Jensen Beach during the incoming tide. They’re also showing up at the Martin County inlets. Try throwing a shrimp on a 3/8- or ½-ounce jig head. There are plenty of whiting and croaker around as well, and pompano are biting when the wind lies down.

     In the Indian River, the east side is holding a lot of keeper-sized trout. Anglers bouncing soft plastics on the bottom are doing extremely well. There are still some nice redfish on the west side, if the wind will allow you to get (and stay) there.

     Those fishing the bridges are catching black drum, sheepshead and big jacks. As always, the snook bite is good at night.

     Pompano and some Spanish mackerel were snagged from the beaches of Jupiter, and there are jacks everywhere. You won’t have any trouble finding – and hooking – croaker either.

     Jacks are being caught all over the Intracoastal Waterway in and around Jupiter. Pompano, sheepshead, croaker and mutton snapper are also biting – all out in the open water.

     If you’re targeting snook, your best bet is still (and always) the bridges and dock lights at night.

     Some nice jacks have been pulled from the surf along Palm Beach this week and a few pompano were also reported.

     Intracoastal bridges have been good for snook and small snapper, especially at night, and there are plenty of jacks around as well. They are biting throughout the day.

 FRESHWATER

     The bass fishing has been excellent on Lake Okeechobee, with good numbers and large fish (several over 5 pounds) being reported. The best action is back in the grass and along the outside edges.

     You’ll have no problem catching fish whether you use live shiners or artificial lures, but the shiner-bite is still best. Be sure to bring plenty of them though, because the fish are biting!

     The early-morning action has been great, but the bite is definitely on throughout the day. The fishing should get even better with this cool front that’s passing through.

     East Wall has been a particularly productive area this week for those fishing around the Clewiston area.
