Sebastian Inlet Report

02-29-16 MONDAY: SLOWER BITE

Happy Leap Day! We have a gorgeous morning at the inlet. There is very little wind blowing out of the Southeast and there is a light chop on the water. Winds are forecasted to increase a little this afternoon, but overall we are looking at a very calm day.

Sarah at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported that over the weekend the bite slowed a little. Small Spanish Mackerel, a few Blues, Jacks and Pompano came over the rails. There was a decent Snook bite on the tide changes for anglers free lining shrimp. We're still seeing Black Drum, Sheepshead and Reds as well.
Our first photo today features Dylan Anderson. Dylan landed the 35" C/R Snook and released it unharmed right after the photo.
Photo two features David of Kissimmee. David's first trip to the inlet with Luke Vila produced a lot of Snapper and the Catfish in photo two. All fish were released.
Photo three features Luke Vila of Kissimmee with a Whiting he landed and released.

Sebastian Inlet Report

02-26-16 TGIF! SNOOK, POMPANO AND MACKEREL

Today's forecast calls for sunny skies with a high near 66. The winds will be out of the Northwest around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Through the weekend, temperatures will remain steady and the winds will ease up. The National Weather Service still has a small craft advisory in effect across the east central Florida Atlantic waters beyond 20 nautical miles. Small craft operators should exercise caution.
The Sebastian Inlet's Bait & Tackle shop reports a pretty good bite to kick off the weekend. A couple of keeper snook have come over the rails along with some pompano, Spanish mackerel and red fish.
Our featured angler today is Louie Cruz from Virginia. On Louie's first trip to the Inlet, he landed a couple of great pompano on the jetty using live shrimp. Before he leaves the area Louie hopes to hook up with an Inlet snook, black drum or red fish.

Scouting Around Palm Beach/Martin County Area

            INSHORE
Cubera snapper, jacks, pompano and sheepshead are all biting in the surf along Jensen Beach during the incoming tide. They’re also showing up at the Martin County inlets. Try throwing a shrimp on a 3/8- or ½-ounce jig head. There are plenty of whiting and croaker around as well, and pompano are biting when the wind lies down.
In the Indian River, the east side is holding a lot of keeper-sized trout. Anglers bouncing soft plastics on the bottom are doing extremely well. There are still some nice redfish on the west side, if the wind will allow you to get (and stay) there.
Those fishing the bridges are catching black drum, sheepshead and big jacks. As always, the snook bite is good at night.
Pompano and some Spanish mackerel were snagged from the beaches of Jupiter, and there are jacks everywhere. You won’t have any trouble finding – and hooking – croaker either.
Jacks are being caught all over the Intracoastal Waterway in and around Jupiter. Pompano, sheepshead, croaker and mutton snapper are also biting – all out in the open water.
If you’re targeting snook, your best bet is still (and always) the bridges and dock lights at night.
Some nice jacks have been pulled from the surf along Palm Beach this week and a few pompano were also reported.
Intracoastal bridges have been good for snook and small snapper, especially at night, and there are plenty of jacks around as well. They are biting throughout the day.

 FRESHWATER
The bass fishing has been excellent on Lake Okeechobee, with good numbers and large fish (several over 5 pounds) being reported. The best action is back in the grass and along the outside edges.
You’ll have no problem catching fish whether you use live shiners or artificial lures, but the shiner-bite is still best. Be sure to bring plenty of them though, because the fish are biting!
The early-morning action has been great, but the bite is definitely on throughout the day. The fishing should get even better with this cool front that’s passing through.
East Wall has been a particularly productive area this week for those fishing around the Clewiston area.

02-25-16 THURSDAY: MACKEREL, BLUES AND SNOOK

The National Weather Service has issued an URGENT Marine Weather message notifying the public that a small craft advisory is in effect until 10 A.M. tomorrow morning. NWS predicts winds out of the west around 20 knots and waves/seas 6-to-8 feet. This means hazardous conditions for small craft and inexperienced mariners. A gale warning is also in effect until 10 A.M. this morning. Inlet anglers will experience mostly sunny skies today and tomorrow with highs in the upper 60s. There's no chance of showers.

The Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reports a big bite with Spanish mackerel and blues yesterday. Also coming over the rails were some big trout, a couple of small snook, a few flounder, black drum and sheepshead. Right now, we're hearing it's pretty slow going this morning with only a few folks on the jetties.

Our picture of the day is from Luke Vila of Kissimmee. Luke and his friends hooked up earlier this week with some sheepshead, snapper and even a catfish.

Sebastian Inlet Report

02-24-16 WEDNESDAY: BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD, SNOOK AND JACKS

We have gray skies over the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the South at 15 mph, gusting to 21 and there is a moderate chop on the water. NOAA is calling for the winds to increase even more this afternoon and has issued a small craft advisory that is in effect through late Thursday night. We have a chance of rain and thunderstorms today; go prepared for it if you head to the inlet.

Yesterday the bite fell off a bit. We heard that a rare, real nice Cubera Snapper came over the rails in the early morning hours along with a couple of slot Snook. In the afternoon hours one Snook was lost to a break off, only three Black Drum were landed and a couple of Sheepshead. A lot of small Jacks were landed and returned to the water. Please familiarize yourself with the FWC rules and regulations. They can be found at the top right corner of this page. Know your bag limits and size restrictions. Read the rules of suggested etiquette to make your fishing experience better.
Our first angler today is Bryan Demieville of Jacksonville. Bryan landed his first Snook ever, a perfect 32" and 11.5 lbs., while on his first trip to the Sebastian Inlet. Bryan was free lining live shrimp from the north jetty when he landed this beauty.
Photo two features Angel Camejo with a 26" Black Drum that he released right after the photo.
Our last photo is courtesy of Sally Baughman of Jackson Hole, WY. Sally was on the north jetty Monday morning and captured the beautiful sunrise. That was all she captured, she reported a slow Thanks Sally.

Sebastian Inlet Report

02-23-16 TUESDAY: SHEEPSHEAD, BLACK DRUM, POMPANO, SNOOK, BLUES, JACKS AND FLOUNDER

We have a few clouds over the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the South-Southeast at 10 mph, gusting to 15 and there is a moderate chop on the water. NOAA is calling for small craft to exercise caution today and has issued a small craft advisory that will be in effect Wednesday morning through Thursday morning. We have a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon; pack accordingly if you head to the inlet today.

We had quite a crowd on the north jetty taking advantage of that beautiful day we had yesterday! There was a pretty good Sheepshead bite with fifteen or twenty coming over the rails in the afternoon hours for anglers using sand fleas. The Black Drum bite tapered off, only four or five were landed and four or five Pompano were landed on sand fleas. A couple of slot Snook were landed, one on Black Drum bait and the other angler was free lining live shrimp. Both Snook were 30". A couple of Spots were landed and a lot of small Jacks and Blues in the 10" - 12" range were in play.
Our first angler today is Richard Allen of Valkaria. Richard fished the north jetty at night on the start of the outgoing tide. Richard was using a bucktail jig to land this 31.75" slot Snook.
James Vann of Melbourne is featured in our next two photos. James did some night surf fishing and landed the nice Sheepshead in photo one and the good sized Pompano in photo three. James also landed a Bluefish and a Whiting.

Sebastian Inlet Report

02-22-16 MONDAY: POMPANO, WHITING, BLUES, BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD, SNOOK, TROUT AND FLOUNDER
We have a beautiful morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the North-Northwest at 7 mph, gusting to 9 and there is a light chop on the water.
We had Black Drum, Sheepshead, Trout, Snook, Pompano and a few Spanish Mackerel that came over the rails of the jetties over the weekend. A few mid-sized Flounder were landed along the banks and outside of the channel of the inlet.
There was some decent surf fishing conditions. Pompano, Whiting and Bluefish were active according to Charlie Achinelli of Sebastian. Charlie also lent a hand to a fellow angler who hooked up with a decent sized shark on a large circle hook, our guess is a Black Tip or Spinner. Our first photo today is of the shark being brought to shore and the second photo is of Charlie dragging her back out. Thanks Charlie!
Tanner Stewart is featured in our third photo with a 5.8 lb. Flounder he landed on the north side rocks.

From Capt. Charlie @ Fishing Center - Ft Pierce

Inshore:
Well, it finally warmed back up to a nice comfortable winter this week on the Treasure Coast.  With highs in the mid to high seventies, it was nice to dress light for a change.  We still have the winds to deal with, but the fish have been hungry and it been fun!  I think we can expect more of the same conditions in the coming weeks ahead, so enjoy and get out fishing soon.
Trying to duck in out of the winds have provided us with lots of fish back in some of the islands this week.  Our best bite has been on the croakers.  They have arrived in great numbers and not only fun to catch, but more fun to enjoy on the table.  Just about everyone on the boat caught nice sized croakers this past week.  Sheepshead and snapper are still just as thick around the river as well.  The trout and pompano bite has remained good for us to round out a nice variety of fish.  Along with jacks, ladyfish and a few mackerel and you have an exciting week on the water.
Trout and redfish have been hanging in shallow water lately.  Make sure you are moving stealthily and quietly when fishing the flats.  Work your lures very slowly or they will spook easily.  Try a DOA or Monster 3X shrimp, Jerk Bait or Terror Eyz and work them slower than slow for best results.

02-19-16 FRIDAY: TGIF!

We have some dark clouds over the inlet this morning but it is forecasted to clear up and we should have a decent weekend ahead of us. Winds are blowing out of the Northeast at 15 mph, gusting to 22 and the water is choppy. NOAA has issued a small craft advisory through this evening. The water should start calming down tomorrow and be much calmer by Sunday, giving our boaters a chance to get out and wet a line. ALWAYS check the NOAA forecast prior to boating as conditions can change very quickly.

We've been seeing the usual species for this time of year. Black Drum, Sheepshead, Pompano, Whiting, Flounder, Spanish Mackerel and a few Blues. Sarah at the Sebastian inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported that yesterday at the end of the outgoing tide, schools of Spanish Mackerel made an appearance. This morning there were a couple of slot Snook landed on live shrimp.
Our angler of the day is four year old Ryleigh Blanchard of Melbourne. Ryleigh fished the south side of the inlet with her uncle, Andrew Sampson also of Melbourne when she landed the fish of the day. Ryleigh's nice Flounder was landed near the T-Dock on her Barbie Fishing Pole! Uncle Andrew was there to help this budding angler pull in her first fish ever. Great job Ryleigh, keep up the good work!
Our next photos are courtesy of Charlie Achinelli. Charlie fished the beach in some rough surf this week but it paid off with the good sized Pompano in photo two and the 18" Weakfish in photo three.

Scouting Around Palm Beach/Martin County Area

INSHORE
Bluefish, jacks, whiting and Spanish mackerel are all chewing in the surf along Jensen Beach. Fish are being caught throughout the day, so there’s no need to be out there early.
Those fishing in the Indian River are catching big numbers of redfish from the Jensen Causeway and north. They’re finding them on both the east and west sides, depending on which way the wind is blowing.
Bluefish and Spanish mackerel are also biting, and pompano and snook are being caught around the bridges. As you’d expect, night time is best for targeting snook.
The beaches of Jupiter were pretty quiet this week but there are whiting around throughout the day, along with a few pompano and bluefish. Finding clean water has been more important than time of day or tidal conditions.
Those fishing in the Intracoastal Waterway and Loxahatchee River in and around Jupiter are hooking snook, mangrove snapper and sheepshead around the bridges. Fish are biting during the day, but the best action seems to be at night. There are plenty of jacks around as well.
Jacks and a few bluefish were hooked in the surf along Palm Beach this week. The fish seem to be holding there throughout the day.
Snapper and sheepshead are being caught off the north jetty of the Boynton Beach Inlet, and jacks have been snagged in the surf.
In the Intracoastal around Boynton Beach, snook, jacks and black drum are all biting around bridges at night.

FRESHWATER
The fishing has been excellent in Lake Okeechobee, especially when the wind cooperates. On calmer days when you can hold the outside edges and fish back in the grass, big numbers of bass are being reeled in, along with several large fish. Hooking a 7-pounder (or bigger) is certainly not uncommon at this point.
Live shiners are still working better than artificial lures. Finding the hot spots is dependent on the wind, but there have been good reports from Pelican Bay to the Harney Pond area.
The morning bite is still best, but you can definitely catch a lot of fish throughout the day and night.

Sebastian Inlet Report

02-17-16 WEDNESDAY: BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD, POMPANO AND FLOUNDER

What a stunning morning at the Sebastian Inlet. We have a beautiful morning with bright blue skies and cool temperatures. Winds are blowing out of the West-Northwest at 11 mph, gusting to 17 and there is a moderate chop on the water. NOAA has issued a small craft advisory for seas and a small craft advisory is in effect Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night.

Yesterday we had quite a few boats lined up in the inlet outside the channel. Pompano and mid-sized Flounder were being brought over the gunwales. John Dressing of Vero Beach took advantage of the beautiful conditions and fished the south beach yesterday, hoping for some Blues. John was throwing a spoon but couldn't get a bite. He saw one Blue landed by another angler and John got his daily dose of vitamin D!
Our angler of the day is Lamont Willis with a beautiful, 7 lb. Sheepshead he landed off the north catwalk last week.

Inshore
the fan has been on high all weekend.  but as the week go's on its looking better. this weekend looks good.if you can hide from the wind and rain and can find clean water the fishing has been good. I was out Sunday in north fort pierce with the fly rod and  jumped off 6 Tarpon missed a few Snook had a few sheepshead we landed a really nice redfish in skinny skinny water. the trout and redfish are in thick. snook fishing is so,so in deeper water we need a few hot days with no rain and snook fishing will get much better as for you stuart guys go north the dirty water sucks north of Jensen beach and the water starts look better.
Bass fishing
bass are moving on the bed for your fly guys this is your time to get a fatty 20lb and a 8 or 9wt try to play the fish out its out photo and back in the water the less stress the better off the fish are going to be .. black flashy flies with a cone or barbell eyes will be a go to fly for me over the next few weeks the peacock fishing will start getting real good as they start moving on the beds if you have not done this style of fishing and are from up north think of a smallmouth bass with more fight in it thats how good peacock bass fishing is.                                                                                                                       photo courtesy of Hai Truong @ haitruongfishing.com

SEBASTIAN INLET REPORT

02-16-16 TUESDAY: BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD, FLOUNDER, SNOOK, REDS, SPANISH MACKEREL, TROUT AND POMPANO

After a stormy early morning, the late morning is shaping up to be gorgeous. Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 4 mph, gusting to 8 and there is a moderate chop on the water. NOAA issued a small craft advisory that is in effect through 10:00 a.m. today. Winds are predicted to decrease this afternoon and the water should smooth out. It could be a nice afternoon to go surf fishing!

We are seeing the usual cast of characters at the inlet. Fish species include Black Drum, Sheepshead, Reds, Flounder, Snook, Blues, Pompano and Spanish Mackerel. Anglers fishing the flats are seeing quite a few Speckled Trout and a few have been landed off the jetties. Flounder are being landed from the shoreline, off the catwalks and some even from the jetties. We are seeing a few in the eight lb. range but the really huge doormats haven't arrived yet.

Our anglers today are Richard Regateiro and Peter Privitera of Polk County with two healthy Flounder they landed off the south jetty on the incoming tide.

Scouting Around Stuart Area

Some more pompano have been caught at the crossroads, Sailfish Flats, and beaches. Lots of sheepshead and black drum caught at Twin Rivers Park. Last night, the snook bite was good, we caught three 25 inchers along the dock lights and bridges. Some decent trout have been caught inshore at Pecks Lake along the flats on the West side of the Indian River.

02-15-16 MONDAY: BLACK DRUM, SPANISH MACKEREL, SHEEPSHEAD, BLUES, FLOUNDER, SNOOK, REDS AND TROUT

Winds are blowing out of the East-Southeast at 16 mph, gusting to 20 and there is a moderate chop on the water. We have clouds over the inlet this morning with a chance of showers throughout the day. NOAA has issued a small craft advisory through late tonight. Always check the NOAA forecast prior to boating.

The weekend brought in some mid-sized and larger Flounder, Sheepshead and Black Drum. Slot and oversized Snook and Reds, quite a few Spanish Mackerel and a couple of Trout, Blues and Pompano were landed as well. Overall, we had a pretty good weekend even with the high winds.

Our first photo today features Jason Wagner of Winter Springs. Jason came over to the fish the north jetty and went home with the 26" Black Drum that Jason landed on clams along with a Blue he landed on shrimp. His dad John landed a Sheepshead and two Blues on shrimp as well. They saw on oversized Red come over the rails, one big Snook and several small Pompano.

Scouting Around Sebastian

What a gorgeous Friday morning at the Sebastian Inlet! Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 3 mph, gusting to 5 and there is a light chop on the water. Winds are predicted to increase a little this afternoon but it looks like a great day to get out and fish.

The bite is very good at the inlet according to Sarah at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop. Slot and oversized C/R Snook, Black Drum, Pompano, Reds, Sheepshead, Flounder are all being landed. A few Blues and Spanish Mackerel are in the mix as well. Sarah had to close up the shop to see it but there were four slot sized Black Sea Bass that were landed from the north jetty yesterday, what a rare treat! We've had some unusual events this week!

Our first photo today features Tanner Stewart with a real nice 8.7 lb. doormat he landed on the south side of the inlet.
Photo four features Bob Mann with a huge C/R Red he landed off the north jetty.

Sebastian Inlet Report

02-11-16 THURSDAY: BLACK DURM, SNOOK, POMPANO, SHEEPSHEAD AND BLUES

We have another chilly morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the West-Northwest at 8 mph, gusting to 13 and there is a moderate chop on the water. The wind is predicted to decrease this afternoon and it should warm up nicely. Looks like it's shaping up to be a good fishing day!

Yesterday the outgoing tide produced some slot and oversized Snook, Black Drum and Pompano. A few straggler Spanish Mackerel, Blues and Sheepshead rounded out the catches.

Our first photo today features Rich Blum of upstate NY and Vero Beach. Rich fished the north jetty and reported the bite was good . He arrived on the jetty around 9:00 a.m. Everybody was fishing the inlet side of the jetty where they landed multiple slot Snook and Black Drum. Rich got a spot in the corner and after twenty minutes landed his first Black Drum. The bite really turned on between 10:00 - 12:00 with at least thirty Black Drum coming over the rails. Rich landed five and took home four using marinated clams and old, dead shrimp. The Pompano bite turned on around 1:00 as Rich was leaving.

Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach is featured in our second photo. Mike's 27" Black Drum was one of two he landed using clams.

Scouting Around Palm Beach/Martin County

INSHORE
The pompano have arrived in the surf along Jensen Beach. The key, however, is finding clean water. That is far more important than time of day or tides. Clams and/or Fish Bites (Clam or Sand Flea flavor) seem to be working best. Bluefish and Spanish mackerel are also being caught.
Trout are being caught on the east side of the Indian River, especially around Middle Cove and Bear Point. The redfish action is still great on the west side as well, if the wind will let you get – and stay – there.
Plenty of nice snook were caught around bridges this week. And, remember, snook season is open!
Anglers in Jupiter are catching plenty of pompano as well, especially south of the inlet. There are also ladyfish and whiting around.
Those fishing in the Intracoastal Waterway and Loxahatchee River around Jupiter are reporting snook at the bridges. Bluefish, jacks and a few pompano are also being caught out in the open and deeper water.
Sheepshead, mangrove snapper, jacks and bluefish are all chewing near the jetties at the Boynton Beach Inlet.
Bridges and docks have been great spots for targeting snook in the Intracoastal throughout Palm Beach County. As always, the night bite is best.

FRESHWATER
Cooler weather and windy conditions have made it difficult to hold the outside edges of Lake Okeechobee at times this week, but that’s where the best fishing is. Good numbers of bass are being caught, and there are some big fish are being snagged. There were multiple reports of bass weighing over 7 pounds being caught.
If you can get back in the grass, there is great action there as well.
Live shiners are still working better than artificial lures.

Sebastian Inlet Report

02-10-16 WEDNESDAY: BLACK DRUM, SPANISH MACKEREL, REDS

We are pleased to report that we had a happy ending to our "whale saga" yesterday; Mama and calf exited safely out of the inlet at mid-day and headed north. What an amazing sight!

We have a very chilly morning at the inlet; bundle up if you head that way today! Fortunately the wind has subsided; it's blowing out of the West-Northwest at 4 mph, gusting to 7 and there is a light chop on the water. NOAA issued a small craft advisory through 10:00 a.m. this morning and is predicting the wind to increase this afternoon.

Yesterday the bite was slow off the jetties. The afternoon outgoing tide produced four Black Drum from the north jetty, Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach landed two of them. There was one Spanish Mackerel and one oversized Redfish landed but overall it was very slow.

Our first and second photo today is courtesy of Chris Morgan of Melbourne. Chris and his wife Debra were fishing the north fork of the Sebastian River when Debra landed this rarely caught Bigmouth Sleeper Goby using live shrimp. The fish are native to mostly south Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Central and South America. The saltwater species can live completely in fresh water as well. Chris reported they hooked up with a couple of Tarpon and Mangrove Snapper that day, all were released.
Photo two is from Chris who  landed the Sheepshead using sand fleas and the Trout and Spot using shrimp. He also landed and released some undersized Flounder and Reds.

From James Cronk @ Whites Tackle - Ft Pierce / Stuart

Inshore the fishing has been good with some nice trout and reds to the north around round island in the 3 to 5ft of water. The snook bite has slowed down a little with the west wind but should be good after this front comes through. The flounder bite at the jetty has been good on live shrimp and jigs on the incoming tide.

From James Cronk @ Whites Tackle - Ft Pierce / Stuart

Inshore the snook fishing has been great with some nice fish around the inlets and bridges on the outgoing tide jigs and live bait have produced well stop on in we have a great selection of First Light Jigs. There were a few reports of some nice trout around midway road to the power lines soft baits have produced well. The pompano bite has been good around J.C park on the incoming tide with jigs and sand fleas,The south jetty in Ft.Pierce has had some nice pompano and flounder around to live shrimp has worked the best.

Sebastian Inlet Report

02-09-16 TUESDAY: BLACK DRUM, POMPANO, SHEEPSHEAD, TROUT, FLOUNDER, BLUES AND REDS

ENDANGERED NORTH ATLANTIC RIGHT WHALES ARE IN THE INLET. THE MOTHER AND CALF ARE HEALTHY. THE MOTHER IS APPROXIMATELY 45 FEET LONG AND THE CALF IS APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET LONG. FWC IS MONITORING THE WHALES. PLEASE AVOID USING THE INLET IF POSSIBLE; THERE ARE ONLY 500 OF THESE WHALES LEFT IN EXISTENCE. THE WHALES ARE VISIBLE FROM SHORE; THEY HAVE BEEN HANGING AROUND THE SAND TRAP WEST OF THE BRIDGE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.

Winds are blowing out of the West at 7 mph gusting to 13. NOAA has issued a small craft advisory through Wednesday morning. Black Drum continue to be the best bite at the inlet. Clams and dead shrimp have been the baits of choice. Pompano and Sheepshead are hitting crustaceans, particularly sand fleas. Speckled Trout, Flounder, Blues and Reds round out the mix.
