07-09-15 THURSDAY: JACKS, REDS, C/R SNOOK AND SNAPPER
We have a little more wind today which is helping with the heat and the no see 'ums. Winds are blowing out of the East-Southeast at 4 mph, gusting to 7 and there is a light chop on the water. The clumps of algae aren't as prevalent but the water has darkened up.
Anglers are having a little luck with Jacks, Reds, mostly oversized, C/R Snook and a few Mangrove Snapper. There's no consistency to the bite, it's pretty much catch-as-catch-can. A lot of greenies and mojarra have been schooling around the jetties but the fish are lethargic in the summer months. The bad news is it's probably going to get worse as the heat rises. This time of year anglers have better luck offshore or fishing in low light periods and evenings when the sun isn't as intense.
Our first photo today features Rangelo Soriano of Miami. Rangelo the north jetty over the 4th weekend and reported both days were slow during the day but picked up in the early evening. Rangelo got a real nice surprise with this 30" Cobia he landed on the beach side of the jetty using a greenie. The Cobia was 3" short and it was released right after the photo. It's an unusual catch for a shore-based angler.
Alek Turko of Indialantic landed the 21" slot Red while kayaking near the inlet. Alek was using shrimp.
