07-07-15 TUESDAY: SLOW BITE
We have a real pretty morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Northwest at 4 mph and the water is clean and calm. Even though the water is clean, we still have algae drifting out of the inlet on the outgoing tides that are snarling lines and using up valuable fishing time. There are no NOAA advisories but we have a chance of rain and thunderstorms today.
We had a slow day again yesterday. Inlet regular Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach fished the morning hours and reported a slow, or in his case no bite. There are fish out there and bait in the water, but getting them to cooperate is the trick!
We received an update and photos from Mike Whaley of Palm Bay over the long weekend. Mike and his wife Kristen fished the south side late Friday afternoon from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. Mike said the weeds were thick and every cast ended with a few minutes of clearing the rig. Although Snook were tearing through the schools of mojarra that were hugging the rocks, the bite was slow. They were at the inlet about 15 minutes when Kristen landed this nice C/R Snook using live shrimp. They wanted to get the fish back into the water and didn't take the time to measure it but they estimated it was 24". Kristen wanted to make sure she didn't drop the fish on the rocks and it swam away healthy right after the photo. Mike said they had a great time watching numerous juvenile green sea turtles and some dolphin that were swimming around.
Mike also took our second photo today. Nick (last name unknown) was fishing the south side rocks when he landed this beautiful C/R Red using mojarra.
