Sebastian Inlet Report

07-01-15 WEDNESDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER AND SPANISH MACKEREL

We have another lovely morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 8 mph and there is a light chop on the water. We are having some issues with our weather station on the web cam. We are addressing the problem, you for your patience.

We received a couple of updates from inlet regulars Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach and Paul Szoke of Barefoot Bay. Paul reported a decent Snapper bite on Monday; they were hitting greenies and mojarra. Paul landed several good sized Snapper.  Mike reported a fair Mangrove Snapper bite yesterday morning with about 12 - 15 fish landed, although he didn't have any luck. Live mojarra was the bait of choice for north jetty anglers. Several nice Spanish Mackerel came over the rails, inlet regular Diane Buyce of Melbourne landed two good sized fish. Lots of bait pods were being busted up, local experts seemed to think Mackerel and Bonito were causing the commotion. Several Barracuda have been patrolling the north jetty which has been keeping most of the Mackerel out of casting range. Thanks for the update and photo Mike!

Our angler of the day is Pham Trung who took care of one of those Barracuda yesterday. It took Pham quite a while to land this fish as he was using very light tackle, 4 lb. test.
