06-01-15 MONDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, REDS, JACKS, SHEEPHEADS AND PERMIT; SNOOK SEASON CLOSES
Winds have shifted today and are coming out of the Southeast at 5 to 10 mph. There's only a slight chance of showers through the evening. The possibility of thunderstorms kicks up tomorrow and continues for the remainder of the week. For the boaters it's light seas no advisories from NOAA.
Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop says the weekend anglers reeled in a lot of Mangrove Snappers. Along with those Snappers, park visitors landed some big Reds, Sheepheads, Jacks, a few big Permit, Flounder and some Snook. Tommy reports fewer bait fish schooling over the weekend, but there are still a few greenies, Mojarra and Silver Mullet roaming the waters.
Today marks the end of Snook season along the Atlantic Coast. For the next three months, all Snook caught must be released. The season will re-open on September 1st.
Our featured angler today is Kirsten Blaising of Charlotte, North Carolina. Kirsten caught a Sebastian sampler of Flounders, Sheepheads and Jacks during her visit. The Jack in her photo bit on a live shrimp.
