04-06-15 MONDAY: BLUES, JACKS, REDS, SPANISH MACKEREL, SHEEPSHEAD, SNOOK, POMPANO, BLACK DRUM AND TROUT
We had a very wet early morning at the inlet. Rain poured until about 7:00 a.m. and we still have quite a few dark clouds over the inlet that look threatening. Winds are blowing out of the North at 12 mph, gusting to 14 and there is a moderate chop on the water. There are no NOAA advisories this morning.
Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported a very busy weekend; the State Park was crowded with sunbathers and fishermen. The bite was good for some and some went home empty handed in spite of a good variety of species being landed. The weekend and full moon brought some big Reds, Spanish Mackerel, Blues, Jacks, Snook, Sheepshead, Black Drum and Pompano. We're seeing some larger mullet in the water but we're still waiting on the large schools of baitfish to make their way to the inlet. The flats have been productive for those fishing the Indian River and the Sebastian River. Tarpon, Snook, Reds, Sheepshead, Pompano and Trout have been being landed.
Today we are featuring more of the Rathburn brothers who were visiting from MA. The five brothers had a great time on the north jetty landing tons of Bluefish and other species. Our first photo today features Wayne Rathburn fighting a fish. Photo two is of the catch, a very large Black Drum.
