Sebastian Inlet Report

03-10-15 TUESDAY: THE BITE IS PICKING UP

It's a gorgeous morning at the Sebastian Inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 7 mph, gusting to 9 and there is a moderate chop on the water. Winds are forecasted to pick up this afternoon and there is a chance of rain. There are no NOAA advisories posted this morning but always check prior to boating.

Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported that the bite is picking up at the inlet. Jacks have been active and the Blues that are coming over the rails are increasing in size. Jacks and Blues aren't picky and will hit just about anything, real or artificial. The Mackerel are still on the small side but those speedy fish are out there. Anglers using Gotcha lures are having the best luck. Sheepshead have been active and going for sand fleas but any other type of crustacean or jig tipped with pieces of the same will usually do the trick. Fish around structures such as pilings or docks for the Sheepshead. A few smaller sized Flounder have been caught along with some nice Speckled Trout. Snook are getting more active and we've seen a few nice slot and oversized fish.

Our first photo today features T.J. Marshall of Indialantic. T.J. fished the north jetty and landed this beautiful 36" Snook. T.J. reported that the Snook were finicky, three came over the rails but all were oversized and returned. His Snook got tangled up in the pilings but T.J. persevered and pulled it out for a quick photo and release.

Photo two is courtesy of Rich Blum, winter regular on the north jetty.  Rich landed one Sheephsead and saw about 10 others come over the rails.

The Sebastian Inlet State Park will be hosting two more workshops on "How to Surf Fish". The workshops will be from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., meet at the Fishing Museum on the south side of the State Park. Take a pen and notepad for taking notes. Info on rod and reel selection, rigging, baits and more! The dates are on Saturday's, March 14th and April 11th.
