02-06-15 FRIDAY: TGIF! SPOTTY BITE, BUT A FEW NICE FISH FOR THE PATIENT ANGLER
THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS RENOVATING THE SOUTH CATWALK; IT IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. THE A-1-A BRIDGE WILL BE CLOSED FOR 90 MINUTES FEBRUARY 3 - 6, 2015 FROM 10:00 - 11:30 AND 1:30 - 3:00 P.M. YOU MAY WANT TO BUILD IN SOME EXTRA TIME FOR TRAFFIC DELAYS IF YOU ARE TRAVELING OVER THE BRIDGE.
Hang on to your fishing hats anglers, winds are blowing out of the North at 24 mph gusting to 28 and the water is choppy. We have scattered dark clouds over the inlet and the high winds are blowing waves over the jetty rails making it a wet and wild adventure out there this morning. NOAA has issued a small craft advisory through Saturday morning which will probably extend through Saturday evening. The wind will calm down some on Sunday but it doesn't look real good for our offshore boaters this weekend. Always check the NOAA forecast prior to boating as things can change very quickly.
The action this week has been hit or miss at the inlet. We've seen a few Snook, oversized Reds, Blues, Sheepshead, Pompano and Trout but the bite has been spotty. Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported a real good Bluefish bite on the outgoing tide yesterday, they were hitting spoons but not many people were around to land them. The outgoing tide seems to have been more productive this week.
The Sebastian Inlet State Park will be hosting several workshops on "How to Surf Fish". The workshops will be from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., meet at the Fishing Museum on the south side of the State Park. Take a pen and notepad for taking notes. Info on rod and reel selection, rigging, baits and more! The dates are on Saturday's, February 14th (take your sweetheart) March 14th and April 11th.
