01-02-15 FRIDAY: SPANISH MACKEREL, BLUES, SHEEPSHEAD, BLACK DRUM, REDS, TROUT AND A FEW POMAPNO
We have a gray, dreary morning at the inlet with a good chance of rain. The no see 'ums are biting this morning, be sure to go prepared for rain and bugs if you head to the inlet today. This morning winds are blowing out of the North-Northeast at 6 mph, gusting to 8 and there is a moderate chop on the water.
Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported that New Year's Day was pretty productive for our inlet anglers. Some nice Spanish Mackerel were landed on the incoming tide, lots of Blues, Black Drum, Sheepshead, big Reds, Speckled Trout, a few Pompano but no Flounder. We were hoping a change in weather pattern would bring some into the inlet, but that didn't happen.
Our first photo features Rick Bradshaw of Connecticut who landed several good sized Black Drum. Mike said the early morning bite between 6:00 - 7:30 was particularly good for Rick, his father-in-law Tony Swiderski of Sebastian and Joe Herbour of Sebastian. Between the three of them, they landed 8 - 9 Drum and one 23" Red. A second bite occurred on the incoming tide and Mike landed two at 20" and 23".
