Sebastian Inlet Report
09-08-14 MONDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, JACKS, BLUE RUNNERS, SNOOK, REDS, A FEW SPANISH MACKEREL AND TARPON
This morning it's very still, but beautiful at the inlet. The wind is barely blowing out of the East at 1 mph and the water is calm. Insect repellent is a good idea when there's no wind. We are experiencing some extreme tides with the full moon approaching.
We received an update from Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach who fished the north jetty Friday morning and reported a good Mangrove Snapper bite. Mojarra, which were scarce and greenies were the baits of choice. Mike was on the jetty from 6:00 - 10:00 a.m. and said that the early hours were better. Several oversized Reds and Snook were landed before his arrival. Quite a few of our inlet anglers landed their limits of Mangrove Snapper, Mike also landed a nice Black Margate in additional to his Snapper. There were some 5 - 6 lb. Jacks that came over the tip of the north jetty during his time there, most were landed on the fast, outgoing tide.
Tommy Turowski of the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported the Mangrove Snapper bite continued over the weekend. Quite a few Snook were landed and a few were in the slot. A few nice Spanish Mackerel were landed along with Blue Runners and good sized Jacks.
Our first photo today features John Ripa of Satellite Beach. John was fishing from the north jetty close to the beach. He was free lining a large mullet when he hooked up with this real nice 31.75" slot Snook.
Photo two is of Mike Ricciardi's catches from Friday morning, five Mangrove Snapper and a healthy Black Margate.
Photo three is of a real pretty Blue Land Crab, taken by Pam Winegar of Malabar. It is mating season for them and they are all over the place, crossing the road, etc. Harvesting the crabs is illegal from July 1st - October 31st.
