Sebastian Inlet Report

09-17-14 WEDNESDAY: SNOOK, REDS, TARPON, MANGROVE SNAPPER, BLUE RUNNERS AND SPANISH MACKEREL

It's a real nice morning at the inlet. We have a breeze blowing out of the West at 7 mph, gusting to 10 with some cloud cover, which is keeping our jetty anglers a little more comfortable this morning. We have surfers in the water taking advantage of a small swell at first peak, always use caution when casting off the north side of the north jetty when surfers are present. Although conditions are calm this morning, the NOAA forecast is calling for higher winds, a good possibility of rain and building seas this afternoon which could cause hazardous conditions around inlets.

Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach fished the north jetty again yesterday morning and reported the Snapper bite was back on, he got his limit of 5 using mojarra, as did several other inlet regulars who were using greenies. Mike fished from 6:00 - 10:30 but some of the early birds reported a good Redfish bite between 4:00 - 5:00 a.m., with several slot fish landed in the mix of oversized fish. Greenies were thick in the water, but the mullet still aren't there like we expect this time of year. Lots of Blue Runners and Snook were crashing the bait pods but no slot Snook were landed during Mike's time on the jetty. A few Spanish Mackerel were landed, but none in large numbers. Anglers free lining greenies and gotcha lures were having the best luck.
Our first photo features Paul Danko of Sebastian with a fantastic catch. Paul landed this 37" to the fork of the tail Permit floating a live crab on the outgoing tide.
Photo two features Tommy Ngo with a nice 30" slot Snook he landed using a live shrimp, caught before 7:30 a.m.
Our last photo features Bob Green of Vero Beach. Bob landed this 31.75" slot Snook using live mojarra on the north side of the jetty yesterday afternoon.
