Sebastian Inlet Report

08-08-14 FRIDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, BLUE RUNNERS AND REDS BUT SLOW OVERALL

We have another hot, steamy morning at the inlet. This morning was pretty still, but the wind has picked up which is making jetty anglers as comfortable as can be expected this time of year. Currently (11:30 a.m.) winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 8 mph and gusting to 10, there is a light chop on the water.

There was a lot of bait in the water this morning and a lot of small, annoying bait-stealing fish were very active as well. Rock fish were present in abundance and 3 - 4 Barracuda could be spotted cruising the jetty. Norman Downnie of Poinciana said he had fished all night and landed one Blue Runner and about 50 Catfish! The nighttime bite wasn't happening for our north jetty anglers. Several of our north jetty regulars had luck with Mangrove Snapper this morning; Tony Swiderski of Sebastian and Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach landed several decent keepers and some smaller ones that were returned to the water. The only other fish that was landed was landed from 7:30 - 9:30 was another Blue Runner that was landed by Norman. Overall the morning was slow, but not a complete waste of time as several anglers took home Snapper.

Our first photo today features Alex Ciesielski of Cocoa with a big Red he landed Tuesday evening. Alex's brother Steve was netting crabs as they floated by on the outgoing tide and one was used to land this monster! The Red was safely released after the photo.

Our second photo is courtesy of Shaun Vasey who fished the early morning hours yesterday. Shaun reported a lot of Snook in the surf, but they were playing hard to get as they had plenty of bait to feed on. Jacks and Bonito were crashing the bait pods regularly as the sun rose, but the action tapered off around 9:00 a.m., it was very hot with little breeze, kind of like this morning!
