08-15-14 FRIDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, JACKS, BONITO, C/R SNOOK, C/R REDS, BLUE RUNNERS, AND MARGATE
THE END OF THE NORTH JETTY WILL BE CLOSED AUGUST 19, 20, 21 AND 22 TO REPLACE MONTIORING EQUIPMENT ON THE TIP OF THE JETTY.
D.O.T. WILL BEGIN CATWALK RENOVATIONS AND BRIDGE REPAIR WORK ON THE 18TH. THE SOUTH CATWALK WILL CLOSE FIRST, BUT THE NORTH CATWALK WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL THE SOUTH SIDE IS COMPLETED. SOME DAYS, LANES CLOSURES CAN BE EXPECTED. YOU MAY HAVE UP TO A 5 MINUTE WAIT. PLEASE FACTOR IN THE POSSIBILITY THEN TRAVELING OVER THE INLET BRIDGE.
We have a lovely summer morning at the inlet. This morning winds are blowing out of the West-Southwest at 5 mph, gusting to 7 and there is a light chop on the water. The NOAA forecast is calling for seas to cooperate with our boaters this weekend with 1 - 2' seas, of course there are always those summer storms to keep in mind. Summer with its heat, humidity and no see 'ums still can't keep the die-hard anglers off the jetties, at home in the air conditioning. That, plus we've had a pretty decent bite for this time of year. We had several weeks of very little action, but lately the trip to the inlet has been worth it for most. Mangrove Snapper have been the prevalent catch for anglers using mojarra. Big Reds, C/R Snook, Black Margate, Jacks, Blue Runners, and even a few Blues have been in play. There's a lot of bait in the water which is attracting the Jacks, Bonito and Snook. They are giving our inlet anglers quite a show busting through the thick pods. Dragonflies are swarming the jetties, trying to do their part by eating as many no see 'ums and gnats as possible. They are landing on anything stationery, fishing poles, coolers and fishermen.
