INSHORE
There are still some tarpon rolling in the surf along the Treasure Coast, but the best action this week has been whiting and croaker.
There’s a good bite in the Indian River, but you need to get on the water early (6-9 a.m.). There are a lot of bait fish around, and live baits are working best. Most anglers are working the west side of the river, where they’re hooking snook, trout and some nice flounder. There are a few redfish around, too. For best results, be sure to fish near structure.
There hasn’t been a whole lot of beach fishing in Jupiter — or anywhere in central or southern Palm Beach County, for that matter — this week, mostly because it’s just too hot, so there isn’t much to report. There is, however, a good snook bite in the inlets and Intracoastal Waterway. As always, the best bet is fishing the bridges and docks at night.
Mangrove snapper and sheepshead were caught in the Intracoastal at the Lantana bridge this week.
There are big bait schools around the Boynton Beach Inlet, and there have been some nice tarpon spotted in the area.
It’s hot out on Lake Okeechobee, but there are still plenty of anglers making their way out in search of bass — and they’re catching them. Make sure you’re on the water before sunrise because you only have until about 9 a.m. before the bite shuts off.
The best bite this time of year is out toward the open water, but once the sun gets up in the sky, start working the outside edges and back in the grass. If you can find patches of pepper grass, you should be able to hook some nice fish.
The reefs and Spoil Islands have been productive spots for those targeting bass on the Big O.
