07-17-14 THURSDAY: MARGATE, SNAPPER, SPANISH MACKEREL, C/R SNOOK, REDS, BLUE RUNNERS AND LOOKDOWNS
It's a pretty morning at the inlet but we have a real good chance of rain today, clouds are starting to build up and we could see it earlier than usual. Currently, winds are blowing out of the West-Southwest at 10 mph and gusting to 13, the water has a light chop. We've been seeing a lot of Margate and Snapper, a few Spanish Mackerel, C/R Snook, Reds, big Jacks and some small stuff like Blue Runners and Lookdowns.
We received an update from Skip Stowers of Kissimmee who fished the big full moon last week. Skip reported that he hooked up with a big Red early in the evening that took him for quite a ride, but there was no stopping it. The outgoing tide produced a big crab flush around 10:00 a.m. and they landed some for bait. Very large Reds were blowing them off the top of the water in the middle of the inlet. Floating crabs under bobbers during an active feeding period produced nothing, which created lots of frustration.
Our first photo today features north jetty regular Bill Hillman of Kissimmee with a 37" C/R Snook he landed using a croaker. Bill hooked up with 4 Snook and landed and released 2.
Our next two photos are courtesy of Zach Carroll of Palm Bay. Zach and his dad, Mike fished the north jetty at night from sundown to 11:00 p.m. Zach hooked up with 4 Snook, landing and releasing 2 that were 32" and 38". Mike landed one C/R Snook that was 32" and is featured in our second photo.
Zach was back at the inlet with his friend Carl Funicello. Zach landed and released a 42" Snook and Carl, who is featured in our third photo landed a 40" C/R Snook on 10 lb. monofilament.
