07-11-14 FRIDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, JACKS, REDS, C/R SNOOK AND AN OCCASIONAL PERMIT
This morning winds are blowing out of the Northwest at 4 mph and gusting to 10. The NOAA forecast is calling for 1 - 2' seas with a dominant period of 9 seconds.
The jetties aren't producing much right now, the summertime blues have set in and it's been on the slow side. That, plus the runoff has the water dark and smelly with cyanobacterial floating out of the inlet on the outgoing tide. In spite of those factors, Mangrove Snapper have been landed along with a couple of big Jacks, oversized Reds and C/R Snook are still active and an occasional big Permit will be landed for the real lucky angler.
Our first two photos were sent in by Tiffany Servetas. Tiffany was fishing the north jetty when she landed this huge 47" Snook. She said this Snook was heavy and the photo doesn't do it justice. Tiffany released the Snook unharmed after the photo. A stroke of luck happened that day, as the Snook was released, a diver just happened to be in the water and helped revived the big fish and it swam away happy and healthy, great timing.
