06-24-14 TUESDAY: C/R SNOOK, REDS, A FEW PERMIT, SNAPPER, BLUE RUNNERS, LOOKDOWNS AND JACKS
We have another gorgeous summer morning at the inlet. Winds are barely blowing out of the West and the water is as smooth as glass. The NOAA forecast is calling for nice offshore conditions over the next few days, but also has showers and thunderstorms forecasted for the afternoons. Keep your eyes on the skies if you head offshore. Be sure to take lots of sun screen, water and insect repellent if you head to the inlet today.
Fishing has been hit or miss at the inlet for table fare. Catch and release Snook have been active and hitting, but they are out of season until September 1st and must be returned to the water. Please use caution when handling the spawning Snook, we need those Snook to go out and make more Snook! Most of the Reds that are being landed are over the slot. The slot for Redfish is 18" - 27", one per person per day. A few Permit showed up last week, getting many anglers excited with good reason, (see our photo from yesterday). Mangrove Snapper, Blue Runners, Jacks and Lookdowns are in the water and a few are being landed. Greenies and mojarra are the baitfish that are the most prevalent, although last week we had crabs floating out of the inlet on the outgoing tide which attracted the Permit, more than likely.
