Sebastian Inlet Report

06-12-14 THURSDAY: SMALL MANGROVE SNAPPER, BLUE RUNNERS, JACKS, REDS, POMPANO AND WHITING

We have a mix of sun and clouds this morning, but it is absolutely gorgeous at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 11 mph and gusting to 16. There is a light chop on the water. Winds are predicted to pick up this afternoon with a good possibility of rain showers. We had a summer lightning storm that moved in yesterday afternoon that dumped a lot of rain. Be sure to use caution in the summer months as storms can move in quickly and can be very dangerous for those on the beaches and jetties. When the dark clouds start moving in, it's time to pack up and get off the beaches and jetties.

Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported that some smaller Mangrove Snapper are starting to move in and they are taking shrimp and small minnows. A few Blue Runners, Jacks, Reds are being landed off the jetties in small numbers. Pompano and Whiting are being landed from the beaches, but again, in small numbers.

Our first photo today features 10 year old Vincent Patterson of Melbourne. Vincent was fishing the south side beach access of the inlet when he landed his juvenile Palometa using sand fleas. The Palometa was released unharmed.
Photo two is courtesy of Justin Foster of Satellite Beach. Justin sneaked out before work the other morning to wet a line and landed this pretty 17" Speckled Trout which was returned to the water to grow up.
