"Follow it up"
Here's a good bass fishing trick that also works great for many inshore species of gamefish.
Throwing a topwater lure is a great way to get exciting strikes and catch aggressive striking fish. But...miss three or four of those blowups and topwater fishing starts to get very aggravating! Also, a lot of times a snook or big bass will roll up and take a half hearted swipe at a topwater; but never really eat the bait.
When this happens throw a suspending lure or slow swimming swimbait into the same area of the missed topwater strike. Many times the change to a subsurface lure will entice a strike or get a fish to strike even when they don't really want to!
This bass smacked a slow swimming Gambler Lures EZ Swimmer after missing a buzz bait!
