INSHORE
Bluefish are thick in the morning along the beaches of the Treasure Coast. Once the sun comes up, whiting and croaker show up. There are also good numbers of snook in the surf, but it has been a little rough for tarpon.
In the Indian River, the east side of the river has been best this week. There’s a lot of bait in the area, and good numbers of trout and redfish have been hooked. Snook fishing has been excellent in the flats and around bridges. Snapper, black drum and sheepshead are also chewing around the bridges.
There hasn’t been much action from the beaches of Jupiter, mostly because of windy conditions, but there have been a few pompano caught.
In the Intracoastal Waterway, the best action has been snook around bridges, docks and seawalls.
Snook are starting to show up in the surf along Palm Beach, but there hasn’t been much activity this week. There are also some jacks in the area.
There are plenty of snook being caught in the Intracoastal in central and southern Palm Beach County as well. As always, the best spots are the bridges and docks. There also seem to be good numbers near the county’s inlets and jetties.
Large bait schools are moving through Boynton Beach, attracting nice snook and tarpon.
FRESHWATER
Plenty of bass are being caught in Lake Okeechobee, with the outside edges and grass line the most productive.
Several bass weighing more than 7 pounds were reported this week, and they have been snagged on live shiners as well as artificial lures — although shiners seem to be working better.
As the temperature climbs, the window for fishing is closing. The earlier you’re on the water, the better. There’s a big dropoff after 9:30-10 a.m.
