Sebastian Inlet Report

02-07-14 FRIDAY: BLUES AND A SMALL VARIETY OF OTHER SPECIES 

We have overcast skies at the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 12 mph and there is a moderate chop on the water. It's been a quiet week at the inlet. Bluefish have been the most prominent catch and aren't picky eaters. Good bets for Blues are silver spoons. They will also take cut bait and just about anything else. A smattering of Black Drum, Snook, Jacks, Sheepshead and Sea Trout have been landed in very small numbers. 

Our photos today are courtesy of Trina Perone of Inverness. Trina, her husband Ponce and friend Randy Meadows who was visiting from Delaware visited the inlet and enjoyed a beautiful day at the Park. Trina reported that over the course of the day, 3 juvenile Goliath Grouper were caught and returned immediately back to the water. That makes 4 in the past week; looks like those "big boys" under the north jetty have been busy. Randy landed the good sized Sheepshead in our first photo today. 


There are a lot of activities coming up at the Sebastian Inlet State Park. Every Wednesday in February and March, you can take a Ranger guided kayak tour from 1:00 - 3:00. Meet at the Inlet Marina, just north of the inlet. You can bring your own kayak and pay a $3.00 launch fee or rent a single or double at the Marina for $20 for two hours which includes paddles and life vests. This is a weather-dependent event. Call the State Park ahead of time to ensure the activity is happening. On Saturday the 8th, take a Ranger guided stroll along side of the Inlet learning the local history and plants, animals and birds that inhabit the area. Every Sunday in February and March, you can have breakfast with a SISP Ranger at 9:00 a.m. at the Inlet Grill and Gift Shop, who will answer any questions you have regarding the Park. Next Friday on Valentine's Day take your sweetheart to the Night Sounds Concert on the south side of the inlet at Coconut Point Pavilions. The Bobby Owens Band will play oldies, country rock, blues and country music from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The concert is free, but Park entry fees apply.
