Sebastian Inlet Report

02-06-14 THURSDAY: BLUES, A FEW BLACK DRUM AND C/R SNOOK

We have cloudy skies over the inlet this morning and a good chance of rain. Winds are blowing out of the North-Northeast at 12 mph and gusting to 15.

There hasn't been a lot of activity at the inlet except for Bluefish, they've been the most prevalent catch. Blues will take just about any type of bait, so get out there and get some! Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach gave us an update today on what is happening (or in this case, not happening) at the inlet. A few Snook are around and those fishing in low light periods using bucktails are having good luck, but not many keepers are showing up. Yesterday, Tony Swiderski of Sebastian landed a 23" Black Drum and an oversized Red at 28.5" which was released unharmed.

Our angler of the day is Bill Hillman of Kissimmee. Bill landed this beautiful 37" C/R Snook off the north jetty Monday morning around 6:30 a.m. Bill saw only one other Snook that day, an 18" C/R, but reported many Blues coming over the rails, most were on the small side.

There are a lot of activities coming up at the Sebastian Inlet State Park. Every Wednesday in February and March, you can take a Ranger guided kayak tour from 1:00 - 3:00. Meet at the Inlet Marina, just north of the inlet. You can bring your own kayak and pay a $3.00 launch fee or rent a single or double at the Marina for $20 for two hours which includes paddles and life vests. This is a weather-dependent event. Call the State Park ahead of time to ensure the activity is happening. On Saturday the 8th, take a Ranger guided stroll along side of the Inlet learning the local history and plants, animals and birds that inhabit the area. Every Sunday in February and March, you can have breakfast with a SISP Ranger at 9:00 a.m. at the Inlet Grill and Gift Shop, who will answer any questions you have regarding the Park. For more information on Park activities, visit their web site at www.floridastateparks.org/sebastianinlet.
