Sebastian Inlet Report
02-10-14 MONDAY: BLUES, SEA TROUT, SHEEPSHEAD, SMALL FLOUNDER AND JACKS
Our anemometer and weather data summary are still down, our web cam provider is investigating and hopefully will have those areas of the web cam up and running soon. All other parts of the web site are functioning properly.
We have another pretty morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the North at 8 mph, gusting to 10 and there is a light chop on the water. Tommy Turowski of the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported that over the weekend a lot of Blues and Jacks were active in the afternoon at the end of the incoming tide. Some of the Blues reached 5 - 6 lbs. Tommy also reported a few Sheepshead and small Flounder were landed along with some nice Sea Trout. A lot of bait is in the water, and that's a great sign!
Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach is out on the north jetty this morning along with several other regulars and they couldn't believe their eyes! A seal popped up about 10' from the north jetty, surfaced, looked around, submerged and hasn't been seen since! That's an unusual sight, but Tommy Turowski said that about 10 years ago, one appeared and hung out around the south jetty for about a month before moving on. You never know what you're going to see at the Sebastian Inlet!
There are a lot of people fishing the south beach which is usually an indicator of Pompano and Whiting this time of year.
Our anglers of the day are sisters Cali (9) and McKenna (7) Stranz. The girls were fishing with their father, Zach at the T-Dock when they landed a good sized Blue fish! Zach reported the girls had a great time and can't wait to go back! Nice team work girls, way to go!
The Sebastian Fishing Club along with Anglers for Conservation will be hosting "Hook Kids on Fishing" program for kids ages 5 - 16, who are welcome along with their parents. The first 80 kids to register will get a free rod and reel! The program will be held on March 29, 2014 and the clinic will start at 9:00 a.m. sharp at Sebastian Riverview Park. Registration is required by calling the City of Sebastian's Recreation Department at 772-228-7054.
Our third and fourth photos are from last year's "Hook Kids on Fishing" program.
Photo three is of the registration table where the free rod and reels were being given out. Our fourth photo is of Gus Bruger, Jr. and his parents with his new rod and reel on the pier!
