Sebastian Inlet Report

01-09-14 THURSDAY: SHEEPSHEAD, BLACK DRUM, A FEW REDS, BLUES AND POMPANO

It's another gray day at the inlet. The wind has calmed down some, this morning it's blowing out of the East at 12 mph and gusting to 18. The water is choppy and a small craft advisory remains in effect through tonight. There are a lot of raincoats on the jetty this morning, there's a steady, drizzling rain. That could help pick up the bite a bit, we hope!

We thought we'd see more activity with Bluefish after the cold snap, but they remain in small schools. We've had good luck with some real nice Sheepshead for anglers using sand fleas. Black Drum, a few large Pompano, and a few Reds have been landed if one is patient enough.

Adam Piotrowski of Wading River, NY escaped from the frozen north for a vacation and landed this 4 lb. Sheepshead off the north jetty, using live shrimp. Adam was using a micro spin rod with 4 lb. monofilament.
Inlet regular Bill Hillman of Kissimmee landed this big, 37" C/R Redfish off the north jetty, using a 3 oz. spoon on the outgoing tide.
Our last photo today is of Brandon Duncan's first Red he landed off the bank of the inlet. The 16" Red was released unharmed after the photo.

Update on Bonefish: Another reader, Indialantic resident Randy Dudley reported that he sees schools of small Bonefish from 1/2" - 2" range, in schools of 12 - 48, quite a bit when he is casting for bait in the river.
