01-08-14 WEDNESDAY: SHEEPSHEAD, BLACK DRUM, WHITING AND A FEW REDS
We have another gray morning at the inlet, but it's a lot warmer than yesterday! Winds are blowing out of the East-Northeast at 18 mph and gusting to 22. There is a small craft advisory in effect through this evening.
We received an update from inlet regular Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach who reported slow action at the jetties the past few days. The fish are varied but few and far between. Good sized Sheepshead are hitting sand fleas and Black Drum are taking clams or clam/shrimp combos. A few Reds and Whiting have been biting, but they are on the slow side too. Maybe the change in weather/drop in water temperature sent them to shallower waters. We have warmer days ahead of us and hopefully the fish will start cooperating again.
Belly Policarpio of Orlando landed the nice, 19" Sheepshead using dead shrimp.
Brothers Luke and James Vila of Kissimmee fished the beach when Luke landed the C/R Black Drum, in our second photo using shrimp. James landed the Black Margate in photo three using cut mullet. Our last photo is of a large Sailcat that Luke landed and released.
