Sebastian Inlet Report

01-07-14 TUESDAY: SHEEPSHEAD, BLACK DRUM, REDS, FLOUNDER, SNOOK AND BLUES

WOW, we have a chilly morning at the inlet! Winds are blowing out of the North at 23 mph and gusting to 26. The water is rough and a small craft advisory is in effect through late this evening. The temperature is in the low 40's and isn't supposed to rise above 49 today. Bundle up if you head to the inlet today.

Sheepshead, Black Drum, Reds, a few Spanish Mackerel, Blues, Snook and Flounder are making appearances for anglers who are willing to get out and brave the conditions. We actually have a few people fishing on the north jetty this morning.

We had a few people write in and comment about the Bonefish story yesterday, seems they are becoming more common further north than the Keys. Meir Genoune of Boynton Beach reported that he has been catching them from Lake Worth to Jupiter and Hobe Sound. He has had several days this year when he has landed 8 - 10 Bonefish while fishing for Pompano from the beach. William Seplow reported that last week he landed two approximately the same size in the inlet, as the one Scott Ward landed in yesterday's fishing report. After pulling up the FWCC web site, Bonefish are occasionally found as far north as the Indian River Lagoon, there are at least eight species but more could exist. Three unnamed species are Atlantic fish. In the Florida Keys, two species occur, Albula vulpes and an unnamed species. There's little difference in the way they look, and can only be distinguished by genetic testing. The FWC is using DNA testing to identify Bonefish and to map the distribution of Albula vulpes and the newly discovered species in Florida waters. As of Sept. 1, 2013, Bonefish are strictly catch and release, which is ok because they aren't very good to eat, but a lot of fun to catch....if you can!

Our first angler today is Ramon Delgado of Kissimmee with a big 37" C/R Redfish he landed off the north jetty.
Rob Moore of Orlando made it over to the inlet this past weekend and landed a total of 8 Flounder. He landed three nice Spots at 4 lbs. each and the one in our second photo weighed in at 6.5 lbs.
Ian Alvear of Orlando landed his first Black Drum off the north jetty using live clams.
Brandon Duncan landed a 17" Sheepshead while fishing the flats.
