It's a cold, wet morning at the inlet. Temperatures in the low fifties combined with winds blowing out of the Northeast at 27 mph are keeping most anglers off the jetties this morning. We have a few wind and waterproof souls out on the tip of the north jetty. Waves are breaking over the north jetty and there is a small craft advisory in effect through tonight. We may see winds calm down a little over the weekend, but you should always check the forecast before venturing offshore.
Black Drum and Sheepshead continue to be the best bet at the inlet. We are seeing a lot of varied species, but most are in small numbers. Mangrove Snapper, Pompano, Blues, Reds, Black Margate, Flounder, Sheepshead, Snook and Sea Trout have been making brief appearances. Crustaceans are the best bet for Sheepshead and Black Drum like them as well.
Our first photo today is courtesy of SISP Ranger Ed Perry. T.J. Layton of Tampa landed a catch of a lifetime with his 13.5 lb. Flounder! T.J. was fishing the south side using live shrimp.
Photo two features Belly Policarpio of Orlando with a 14" Pompano she landed from the north jetty using frozen clams.
Our third photo is of Hank Christianson of Idaho and Melbourne Beach. Hank landed his large Sheepshead and nice Pompano using sand fleas.
Photo four is of Kristen Rawles of Suffolk, VA. Kristen fished the north jetty when she landed her Black Drum using a shrimp and clam combo.
Our last photo today features Jerry Van Beek of Sebastian and Ontario. Jerry landed his Black Drum using live shrimp.
