Sebastian Inlet Report

12-13-13 FRIDAY: TGIF! BLACK DRUM, SHEEPSHEAD, SPANISH MACKEREL, FLOUNDER, JACKS, BLUE RUNNERS, TARPON AND CATFISH

We have overcast skies at the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the East-Northeast at 11 mph and gusting to 15. The water is choppy and a small craft advisory is in effect until 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. Always check the NOAA forecast prior to going offshore. The NOAA forecast can be found on the web cam page under useful links, below the wind gauges.

SNOOK SEASON CLOSES DECEMBER 15th, you have until Saturday evening December 14th at 11:59 p.m. to land one in the slot of 28" - 32". To be truthful, they haven't been very active anyway, but it could happen for some lucky angler out there. We continue to see a decent Black Drum bite, along with some large Sheepshead in the 5 - 8 lb. range, according to Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop. Sand fleas work very well for Sheepshead, but any crustacean such as shrimp, small crabs or clams. Black Drum are fond of clams and other crustaceans but cut fish and squid are good choices as well. Spanish Mackerel have been chasing Gotcha lures and silver spoons; we've seen some smaller Flounder, a few doormats and Tarpon activity in the evening hours.

Our first four photos today are courtesy of Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach. Mike took the first three shots on Tuesday the 10th and the fourth on Wednesday, the 11th. Photo one features Diane Buyce of Melbourne and Mike with some nice Pompano.

Photo two features Tony Swiderski of Sebastian, Jose Pina of Poinciana and "Granny" of Melbourne with their Black Drum catches.

Mike landed his 18" Pompano after Diane convinced him to stop and try for a few minutes as he was leaving the jetty. Mike stopped and threw his line out near the beach on the north side and within 2 minutes, this beauty hit.

"Big Dave" Hartwell is featured in our fourth photo today. Dave poses with a two of several nice Sheepshead he landed.

Our last photo is of the "Flounder Man", Rob Moore of Orlando. Rob got a glimpse of the large doormat that was landed last week and couldn't stay away from the inlet. Rob made it to the inlet and pulled in these three nice fish. The largest was 6 lbs. and the Three Spot Flounder was real nice at 19".
