Sebastian Inlet Report
12-12-13 THURSDAY: BLACK DRUM, POMPANO, SPANISH MACKEREL, SHEEPSHEAD, FLOUNDER, BLUE RUNNERS, JACKS AND CATFISH
We have blustery conditions at the inlet this morning. It's overcast and winds are blowing out of the North at 22 mph, gusting to 27, so hang on to your fishing hats. A small craft advisory will be in effect from 1:00 pm today through Friday afternoon. Always check the coastal forecast prior to going offshore.
We received an update from Mike Ricciardi who fished the north jetty again yesterday from 6:30 a.m. - noon. Mike hooked up with 3 Black Drum in the first 30 minutes, and then the bite slowed. Mike ended up catching two more later in the morning to get his limit of five. Mike reported a total of 15 - 20 Drum came over the rails, they were small but nice, in the 15" to 20" range. Anglers using sand fleas were having good luck with Sheepshead, although they are sneaky and are very good bait stealers! A lot of people were fishing for Pompano and some nice ones came over the rails. Mike had a large, smart one on which broke the line on the rocks and he lost it. A few anglers were fishing for Spanish Mackerel using gotcha lures and some Mackerel were landed by mistake by anglers fishing for other species. Mike saw one undersized Snook landed from the jetty, but a boat that was parked near the tip kept catching Snook after Snook, go figure! A few nice Whiting were landed along with Jacks, Blue Runners and Catfish.
Our first photo today features Chris Robinson of W. Melbourne. Chris landed this big Black Drum off the north jetty.
Photo two is of Bill Pettway who landed this nice 25" Flounder using mullet. Bill was fishing from the south side on the T-Dock and it looks like there is a good size Sheepshead in his cooler as well.
Check out our third photo of Billy Guthrie of Winter Haven. Billy and his brother Bob of Weikva drove to the inlet where Billy landed this huge Black Drum using clams; he estimated it to weigh 40 lbs. Billy released the big Drum right after the photo. They also landed five more Black Drum, that were short and returned to the water.
Photo four is of Jonathan S. of Orlando. Jonathan fished the north jetty when he hooked-up with this huge Permit using live shrimp around 8:00 a.m. The beast weighed 25 lbs.!
John Maldonado of Kissimmee is featured in our last photo today. John landed this pretty Sheepshead off the north jetty using live shrimp.
