We have a nice breeze at the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the East-Northeast at 15 mph and there is a moderate chop on the water.
Fishing has picked up over the past few days. Lots of bait fish are in the water according to Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach. Mike was out on the north jetty yesterday morning and reported schools of finger mullet swimming around. Big swells out of the northeast caused the water to be murkier and a lot more seaweed was washed in as well. The Snapper bite was slow to begin with, but picked up around 8:30 and Mike was able to land his limit of five. Mike noticed a lot of crabs floating out of the inlet on the outgoing tide and either they or the finger mullet have been attracting Redfish. Quite a few were landed in the slot, Mike got one that was 23", Tommy Ngo had one that was 24", Benjie Vasquez got one at 27" and Jose Dore just missed the slot with one that was 27.5"! Mojarra, clams, shrimp and finger mullet were all producing Reds yesterday. Several good sized Spadefish, quite a few Jacks and a couple of Catfish came over the rails as well.
Our first photo today features novice angler Lan Nguyen of Silver Springs, TX. Lan was fishing from the north jetty she landed a Mangrove Snapper using mojarra.
Jody Willingham of Palm Bay was fishing the north seawall when he landed an 11" Mangrove Snapper using mojarra.
"Big Dave" Hartwell got in on the Mangrove Snapper action as well with four Mangrove Snapper using mojarra. Knowing Dave, he probably didn't leave until he had his limit of five.
Jonathan S. sent us an update on Saturday night's fishing. Jonathan reported that he fished Saturday night into early Sunday morning and the bite was on the slow side. Even so, he managed to land 22" slot Red, a 12" Mangrove Snapper, a Bluefish, a 38" C/R Snook and many Jacks and Ladyfish. That didn't sound so slow!
