05-01-13 WEDNESDAY: SNOOK, REDS, BLUES, JACKS, FLOUNDER, MANGROVE SNAPPER AND BLACK DRUM
We have over cast skies at the inlet this morning and we could see rain later today. Winds are blowing out of the East-Southeast at 9 mph and there is a light chop on the water. Conditions are really nice today, get out and wet a line if you can!
We've had some huge Snook and Reds coming over the rails of the jetties and the rails of our boaters, too! Flounder, Blues, Pompano, small Mangrove Snapper, and Black Drum are making appearances as well. Big Jacks have been giving anglers a work out, too. Spring is a great time for fishing the inlet, we have lots of migrating species and good size schools of various bait fish moving in and out of the inlet.
Our first photo today is of Greg Fillenwarth who was fishing the north catwalk at the end of high tide to the start of low tide, and reported slow fishing. However, landed a decent sized Flounder
Our next two photos are of Nathan Morrison who was fishing the north beach the night when he hooked up with a monster Bull Shark. The Shark was 9' 3" and estimated at 450 lbs.! Nathan was using a Penn Senator 9/0 reel with 100 lb. test. The big Bull took a 10 lb. bait about 100 yards out on the outgoing tide at 1:30 a.m. Nathan finally got the beast to the shore after a 2 1/2 hour fight, at 4:00 a.m. Nathan relays that big Bull Sharks are migrating at this time of year and it's a good time to get out and try your hand at catching one! This is one of the biggest Shark's we've had on the fishing report.
