Sebastian Inlet Report

02-04-13 MONDAY: SHEEPSHEAD, BLACK DRUM, SNOOK, REDS, JACKS, BLUES, SPOTTED SEA TROUT AND FLOUNDER 

It's a cool but beautiful morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Northwest at 6 mph this morning but the NOAA forecast has it switching to the East late this morning and then to the South this afternoon. It sounds like the wind is going to be moving directions a lot today. There is a light chop on the water this morning and the boating forecast looks good, so far.

Over the weekend a good variety of species were landed at the inlet, including some good sized Sheepshead, Black Drum, Blues, Jacks, Reds, Snook, Flounder and real nice Spotted Sea Trout. Tommy Turowski at the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported fishing on the beachside after work on the north beach close to the jetty and a young man pulled out a 9.5 lb. Flounder that was beautiful, nice and fat! The young man was using a rubber shrimp. 

Inlet regular Mike Misserville fished the night shift both days this weekend and reported Friday night a lot of Bull Reds were landed on bucktails. He had four Snook breakoffs, then landed one that was 29.5", except that a Shark bit most of its tail off! When FWC put the stick on it, it was 28". That was very lucky as most of the time the Sharks will only leave you the head!! On Saturday a lot of short Snook were landed and released, but Mike landed a slot Snook at 31 3/4" and B.J. landed one that was 30 1/2", those were the only keepers that he saw that night. Three Black Drum came over the rails; one had a big Shark bite out of its side.

  Photo two is of Nathan Morrison of Melbourne. Nathan was fishing the north jetty on the outgoing tide the weekend before last when he landed two Black Tip Sharks. Nathan was using freshwater eel to land this bad boy. 
  Photo three is of Bisram Anant of Deltona with a Sheepshead he landed off the north jetty Friday morning using sand fleas. 
  Our last photo today is courtesy of Pam Winegar of Palm Bay. Pam captured some excellent photos of the inlet wildlife in January. This photo is of a group of Royal Terns with one Black Skimmer, just to mix things up a bit!
