Sebastian Inlet Report

01-16-13 WEDNESDAY: SHEEPSHEAD, BLUES, BLACK DRUM AND SEA TROUT

What a lovely morning at the Sebastian Inlet! There is a light breeze blowing out of the West at 3 mph and the water is clean and calm. We could see a small swell for the surfers if the West wind picks up a little.

Brooke Ashley of the Sebastian Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop reported that the Sheepshead bite was very good yesterday. Some real nice sized ones were landed on shrimp and clams. Sand fleas also work as well as small crabs. They like any type of crustacean they can use their strong teeth on. Sheepshead love structures and can be found around pilings, rocks, docks and reefs where barnacles grow. Their meat is excellent due to their shellfish diet. They will also hit jigs tipped with those baits and occasionally a bare jig. Blues were also prevalent yesterday. Blues will hit just about anything, they aren't picky at all.

Our angler of the day is Victor Montalvo of Orlando. Victor was fishing off the north jetty Friday when he landed this Black Drum using clams. Nice catch Victor!

Our second photo is of an Egret and a Wood Stork standing by the Tide Pool.

We could use your fishing updates and photos!!
