This morning winds are blowing out of the West-Southwest at 6 mph and the water is calm. It's a little overcast, but still a beautiful morning at the inlet.
Yesterday, the wind and weather cooperated nicely but unfortunately, the fish didn't. Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach fished the north jetty yesterday morning, and reported the bite was slow. Black Drum was the prevalent bite, but only five or six came over the rails and several were lost. During Mike's time on the jetty, only one good sized Sheepshead was landed. Looks like we either get good weather or good fishing, and we know all know which we would rather have!
Our first photo today features inlet regular Red Gaffey of Palm Bay. Red landed these two good sized Black Drum, along with two others, using dead shrimp.
Don Nguyen of Kissimmee is featured in our second photo today with a real nice Sheepshead he landed using sand fleas.
Some of you may have read about the northern oceangoing birds that usually prefer frigid waters showing up on our coast and our third photo features it. SISP Ranger Ed Perry, who spent his vacation fishing the inlet, photographed some Razorbills who have been swimming around the inlet. Bird lovers have been "flocking" to the inlet the see the species. Ed also reported that over the weekend, lots of Blues and Jacks were landed on the incoming tide, a couple of nice Sheepshead and Spotted Seatrout, along with a few Flounder we also landed.
