Sebastian Inlet Report

12-17-12 MONDAY: BLACK DRUM, REDS, POMPANO, FLOUNDER, BLUES AND SHEEPSHEAD

It's a beautiful morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 6 mph and the water is calm. There are a few surfers in the water taking advantage of a small swell, please use caution when casting off the north jetty when surfers are present.

Over the weekend the prevalent catch was Black Drum, dead shrimp was the bait of choice, but just about any type of crustacean will lure them in, or cut fish and squid work as well. A smattering of Reds, nice sized Sheepshead, Blues and Pompano made appearances but not in great numbers.

Our first photo today features "Big Dave" Hartwell. Dave landed this 26.5" Redfish, but in the process lost his favorite fishing hat! The clear water made the hat easy to see, but try as he might he couldn't hook it. He kept snagging it and bringing it to the top, but it finally floated out of sight. Prior to landed his slot Red, Dave pulled in an enormous C/R Red, in the 50 lb. range. Nice catches Dave! If you're good, Santa may bring you a new fishing hat!
