It's been a while since the action around the inlet has been this good and it's about time. Pick a species and it's here in force right now with the only exception being black drum. The cool water means hot action for flounder and they are making their presence know in strong fashion. Though the jetty bite on the flatfish has been slow, the fishing west of the bridge has been great and continues to improve. This weeks cold front should give the action a welcome boost as more flounder take the cooling water as a cue to make their move out to the inlet to spawn. For most consistent action with the flounder it's hard to beat live finger mullet fished on a fish finder rig with a very short 20-30 lb flourocarbon leader and a 1/0 kahle hook. Remember, flounder are classic ambush predators and like to stack up near shallow structure. Try fishing your bait tight to the rocks of either jetty or along the sand ledge that runs along the length of the north west shore behind the bridge. In either of these situations most strike will come from within an area no more than 20 feet from the rocks. Many times the flounder are often directly below your feet. On a side note, the trout have become abundant in and around the tide pool in the past few days. Live finger mullet, shrimp or mojarra's are prime baits right now. Bottom fishing has been out producing float fishing and this is no doubt due to the cool water. Until next time, good fishing.
