09-12-12 WEDNESDAY: SNOOK, REDS, MANGROVE SNAPPER AND JACKS
We have overcast skies and rain at the inlet this morning. Winds are blowing out of the East-Southeast at 10 mph and the water is choppy. Small craft should exercise caution. If you head to the inlet today, dress accordingly.
Finger mullet are making their annual fall migration and the fishing reflects the fact, according to Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach who was on the north jetty again yesterday. Snook and Redfish were "boiling" the bait on the surface and most anglers caught multiple Reds, most of which were slot sized fish. Despite the Snook feeding frenzies, only 6 were hooked up and only one keeper was landed by Tony Swiderski of Sebastian, at 31 3/4". Several good sized Mangrove Snapper came over the rails for those using finger mullet, Diane Buyce of Melbourne landed one that was 16". Mike reported hundreds of Jacks throughout the morning from 1 - 5 lbs. The strong winds and seaweed created a lot of frustration, but the bite was good.
Our photo features Tony Swiderski of Sebastian with the 31 3/4" Snook he landed yesterday when he placed a live finger mullet into the "bait fish boil" yesterday.
Our second photo features Diane Buyce of Melbourne, an inlet regular, holds a gorgeous Mutton Snapper she landed. The Mutton Snapper bite was very hot for about three days, and then they disappeared after storm.
