From Capt. Charlie @ Fishing Center - Ft Pierce
The weather has been cooperating most days lately. Afternoon thunderstorms continue to bring rain around the Treasure Coast, but mornings have been nice to get out on the water. September has been a pretty calm month so far and hopefully we won't be dealing with anymore storms this year. The water is gradually clearing back up from all the rains. It's been nice out there!
Our best bite has been on top water this week. Early mornings can provide you with a variety of fish to target. We have hooked up on some redfish, jacks and snook so far this week while using top water lures. The trout bite has been slower for us with all the stained water around the river, but that should pick back up soon. DOA shrimp and Deadly Combos work great when trout fishing around the river. We have been fishing mostly to the north of Fort Pierce recently. Redfish have been in shallow water on the flats. Most of our fish have come from one to three feet of water.
The mullet run has started and you will find plenty of mullet around the river and in the surf this month. The DOA Bait Buster is a great lure to fish around the mullet schools. Look for snook, tarpon and jacks to be chasing bait along the beach. It's a great time of year to fish!
Have some fun this month and get out fishing! The weather is nice and the mullet will get the fish in the mood to feast on the bait schools. Fish around the mullet schools and you should have success out on the water in September.
