Sebastian Inlet Report

08-01-12 WEDNESDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER, LADYFISH, JACKS AND SNOOK

What a gorgeous morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 4 mph and there is a slight ripple on the water. It's a beautiful day for surf fishing or boating, but always check the coastal forecast prior to going offshore as conditions can change very quickly.

We are experiencing one of our cold water upwelling's; the water temperature has dipped down into the high sixties to low seventies which happens a few times every summer. What effect does it have on the fishing? It's difficult to say, but some locals theorize that the fish go into deeper waters. Shore-based anglers haven't been catching much the past few days off the north jetty other than a couple of Mangrove Snapper, Ladyfish and Jacks.

We know that the evening and early morning Snook bite has been good because we got a couple of fantastic photos.

Our angler of the day is Ian Ilsebough, who landed and safely released this enormous Snook of the catwalk, using a plug. What a beautiful catch!
