From Henrey @ Snook-Nook Jensen Beach

So what are those boats doing so close in the surf, Permit, Tarpon, Snook and big Jacks. Seas have been so polite that the flat boats can work the shore line and not end up on the shoreline. Their target is Permit or Tarpon, crabs or the preferred bait but if they are not chewing a big summer Snook or a monster Jack will try most anglers and their equipment, one foot ten seconds apart
makes for some excellent fishing up close. So if you are surf angler or have thought about giving it a try now is a great time. That
seven foot rod will cast to every where you want to be and the fish will test you ability and the warranty on your equipment. Whiting is the most targeted, excellent table fare but also that is what brings in the bigger fish, live bait fans can put one on the line and put it right back where you caught it, do not wander away from that rod because one these fish will take it home with them. Hard part is that once you have tried the Whiting it will hard to use it for bait when all you are thinking is dinner, and a little piece of shrimp is all it takes to get dinner. Cold water has left the beach, Tarpon are rolling at the inlets, House of Refuge, on up to Walton Rocks, Permit have been up and down the beach with Permit of size at Walton Rocks. Snook season is closed and the Jacks are every where on the move, lots of fish to test you and your equipment.
River anglers if it numbers you are looking for you had better be in the water before sun up. Action starts before sun up and is over buy 9:AM, many location in two feet of water using noisy top water after that move to deeper water and please do rule out channel edges. Later fishing requires weighted jigs or soft rubber baits than can worked slowly and will get you to the bottom Tarpon from many locations, Snook at the inlets and bridges.
No matter where you fish, lots of water or Gator Aid, you need to stay hydrated.
