Sebastian Inlet Report

06-26-12 TUESDAY: WINDY AND RAINY AT THE INLET!

This morning is a repeat from yesterday, only windier! Winds are blowing out of the South-Southwest at 20 mph and the water is choppy; more so, on the inlet side. There is a small craft advisory in effect; boaters should exercise caution. We expect to see rain most of the day today, so go prepared if you head to the inlet.

We received an update from Randy Dudley of Indialantic who fished the Bonsteel Park Shark Fishing Tournament this past weekend. Bonsteel Park is just north of the inlet in south Melbourne Beach. Randy reported the weather was good for a tournament on Saturday as there was plenty of cloud cover so it wasn't hot and the rain was no more than a light drizzle. There was a lot of action, with Sharks being landed up and down the beach. Randy and his team landed a few small ones and other teams brought in some large ones. There were a lot of break-offs with the big ones as the tournament rules required lighter tackle. Randy said a couple of hundred people participated and although the Sharks were fairly consistent, he kept landing Pompano! He had to sacrifice a few for Shark bait, but did take a couple home for dinner. Our photos today are courtesy of Randy, thanks!

Our first photo today is of an unidentified angler with a Nurse Shark he landed at the tournament on Saturday. The angler is shoving the Shark back into the water.
Photo two is of Randy with two of his nice Pompano.
