Sebastian Inlet Report

Winds are blowing out of the Southwest at 8 mph this morning and the water is calm. It's a slow morning, but a few anglers have had some good luck with Spanish Mackerel. Brothers Sam and Russ Terpening and Jack Nehs of Palm Bay landed some decent Spanish Mackerel, but said the real big ones were out of casting distance. The young men also reported that some big Snook were visible, but not biting. A couple of Tarpon were rolling, also out of casting distance. Overcast skies  make for a very pleasant experience on the jetty, rains are expected late this afternoon.

We received an update from Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach who was out on the north jetty yesterday and reported a few Sheepshead, Spots, Jacks and a Porkfish. For those of you who are not familiar with the Porkfish, it's a pretty yellow, black and white fish shaped like a Margate. They are good eating and are tough fighters for their size. They average 8" - 10" and can reach 14". The big fish of the week was Chuck Fischer of Satellite Beach who put his last live shrimp on the line and said it didn't even hit bottom before it got nailed by a big Permit and it took off. Chuck played the fish for about twenty minutes. Permit are good fighters and this one wasn't giving up easily, it ran out lots of line and covered a lot of territory back and forth across the end of the jetty. Chuck prevailed and landed the fish after an arduous battle, man over fish....this time!
