06-22-12 FRIDAY: MANGROVE SNAPPER,SPOTS, SHEEPSHEAD AND ONE BIG PERMIT!
Winds are blowing out of the South-Southeast this morning at 5 mph and there is a moderate chop on the water.
We received a fishing update from Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach who fished the north jetty yesterday morning. Mike was fishing the tip of the jetty and landed a few good sized Spots, one Sheepshead and one Mangrove Snapper. Mike reported the highlight of the morning was Diane Buyce's Permit that she landed on her last, stinky, dead shrimp. She had been fishing the north side of the jetty for Mackerel and not having much luck, so she went to the end and joined him. Mike said she must have thrown the shrimp right into the fish's mouth because as soon as it hit the water, her reel started peeling off line. Diane fought the fish until it succumbed and was brought over the rails. Mike said that there were lots of greenies in the water, but no Spanish Mackerel were biting. Mangrove Snapper were fairly active for anglers using mojarra.

Photo two is of Irvin Williams of Cocoa with a good sized Mangrove Snapper landed on mojarra.
The last photo is of Phillip who hooked up with his first Tarpon, successfully landed on 15 lb braided line with an 80 lb leader and a homemade bucktail. The Tarpon put up a great fight and finished it off by jumping into the drop net!!
