Sebastian Inlet Report

06-14-12 THURSDAY: SPANISH MACKEREL, MANGROVE SNAPPER, FLOUNDER AND SNOOK 

We never get tired of saying this; it's another beautiful morning at the inlet! Winds are blowing out of the North-Northeast at 6 mph and the water is calm.

Inlet regular Mike Ricciardi was out on the north jetty yesterday and reported a marginal bite. Snook were visible, but weren't biting. An angler had a Spanish Mackerel on the line and a Goliath came out of the shadows to try to nail it, the angler yanked on the line to try to pull it from the fish, but lost the Mack in the process....but the Goliath didn't get it either! Three to five Spanish Mackerel were landed, 4 small Mangrove Snapper, one was keeper size and 4 Flounder came over the rails, one was undersized and returned to the water. Mike reported lots of bait fish in the water and he netted all he needed in one cast. He also reported that the word on the north jetty is a lot of Ladyfish in the evening hours along with C/R Snook. Yesterday, the south jetty produced some nice catches for some young men fishing from the rocks. In a 15 - 20 min time span, they landed 4 C/R Snook. One young man reported landing a 40" C/R Red earlier in the day. Big Jacks were in play along with a couple of Whiting and one Pompano. Hopefully, we will have those photos for you tomorrow.

SISP Ranger Ed Perry finally got to go fishing after work on Tuesday evening and reported the water was super clean. Ed managed to land one Spanish Mackerel using a greenie. Ed casted off the north jetty for his bait and reported it difficult to net the greenies in the clear water, they just out-swim the net. Ed suggested a sabiki rig with very small hooks would also work when the water is real clean.
