Sebastian Inlet Report

05-03-12 THURSDAY: BLUES, ATLANTIC SPADEFISH, SPOTS, SHEEPSHEAD AND SNOOK

It's another breezy morning at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 15 mph and the water is choppy.

Yesterday was another slow day at the inlet, at least in the morning hours. Anglers were landing a few Blues, some small Sheepshead and small Atlantic Spadefish but they were few and far between. There were a couple of exciting moments yesterday. Tony Swiderski of Sebastian left his fishing pole for a few minutes and something big grabbed his bait. Mike Ricciardi of Vero Beach was standing next to it and grabbed the pole and started working the fish. Mike brought it all the way to the end of the north jetty and could see it was large Permit (adrenaline started to flow at this point), and then the big guy wrapped himself up in the rocks and broke the line! Mike landed some Blues and a couple of keeper Sheepshead but nothing exciting until he was getting ready to leave, when something hit his bait. He thought he lost the fish twice because it charged toward the jetty but as he started to reel in, sure enough, something big was on the line. Mike ended up pulling in a fat Snook that was about 36". He didn't take the time to measure it, just a couple of quick photos and back into the water. What a beautiful catch.

Mike and his Snook are featured in our first photo today.
