04-04-12 WEDNESDAY: SPANISH MACKEREL, BLACK DRUM, POMPANO, SHEEPSHEAD AND JACKS
We have another gorgeous day at the inlet. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 6 mph and the water is clean and calm.
Fishing has been sporadic off the north jetty. Yesterday there were short periods of excitement with long stretches of boredom, but it was a beautiful day! The early morning brought us a school of huge Jacks that were tearing through the inlet and quite a few were landed. Then a little later a school of Mackerel came through and a few real nice fish came over the rails. A couple of Black Drum were also landed but that was about it for the morning. Dave Lectric of Sebastian landed himself a real nice slot sized Snook this morning, according to Walton Ray at the Inlet Bait and Tackle Shop.
We received an update from Rich Blum of Vero Beach who decided to fish the beach south of the inlet with a buddy yesterday afternoon. Turned out, it was a real good idea. They set up about 1:00 p.m. and pulled in a Sheepshead shortly after. Around 2:00 as the tide started coming in, so did the Pompano. Rich was using clams and hit his limit of 6 between 15" - 19' and they were still hitting at 5:30 when he left. Rich reported a lot of happy anglers.
Spiro Stathoupolos of Malabar got in on the Spanish Mackerel bite and landed three nice fish himself, using live shrimp.
Photo three features Tony Swiderski of Sebastian with one of two Black Drum landed yesterday morning. Tony was using live shrimp.
