Sebastian Inlet Report

03-07-12 WEDNESDAY: POMPANO, SHEEPSHEAD, BLUES, JACKS AND SEA TROUT

We have a mix of sun and clouds over the inlet today. Winds are blowing out of the Southeast at 18 mph, gusting to 22 and the water is churned up. There is a small craft advisory in effect through Thursday evening. Always check the coastal forecast prior to venturing offshore.

Pompano have been the big attraction at the inlet, fresh and frozen clams are doing to trick. Sea Trout have been taking lures and live shrimp, the Blues that we've seen will take just about anything, Sheepshead love sand fleas if you can get them, shrimp, small crabs or clams. The Snook bite really slowed down from a couple of weeks ago, but every now and then one will show up for anglers using live shrimp. We've had a few big Reds biting at night.

Photo is of Rob, him and his buddy Ryan fished the south side a few night ago using a stingray wing on the outgoing tide and after only 10 minutes, they hooked up with this 7' 3" Bull Shark. Using 4/0 and 6/0 conventional offshore reels with 150 lb mono leaders attached to 100 lb wire leaders with 12/0 hooks, Rob attaches a balloon to the bait, throws it out in the channel and lets the current take the bait out 200 - 300 yards. Rob reported that Sharks were very active that night and they are all over the place at this time of year. This was one of about 7 hook ups he had that evening.
